My anxiety is off the chart!! I have anxiety about taking medication. I read labels and directions and have catastrophic thoughts. I was prescribed Buspirone, and I just took my first 2.5 mg dose. I am so overwhelmed in life right now: aging mother with special needs, teenager with special needs, high pressure job, my health concerns with melanoma, I could go on .... I am very irritable and jumpy, and I know that it is overstressed life combined with a history of anxiety. Is Buspirone a good place to start?

Buspar and Buspirone
Hi Joyous,
There are a lot of posts about Buspirone on here if you search it I think. I was prescribed it to use as needed on top of my normal NSRI (Venlafexine). I took up to 30mg I think and didn't really notice anything. I believe it is supposed to be good about kicking in quick. As far as labels and such go, they have to cover all of their bases. There are loads of people taking all sorts of meds, and we all have to decide if the pros outweigh the cons. We can always stop if we don't like it. I am planning on taking my antidepressant until my kids are about 18 or so to have stability. If I go off I will be sure to have a lot of support around. That being said, I think that therapy is my #1 for treatment.
It sounds like you have a lot going on and I think anyone would be struggling. I know you can make it through this stronger than before. I wish you peace, hope, and strength
Thank you for the encouragement. That is very wise that you thought it through to medicate until your kids are 18... I probably should have started sooner as my daughter is now 15. I have a good relationship with her but I know she has seen me anxious and depressed and I am sure it was a worry for her. I needed that reminder that it can be stopped if needed. It is isnt forever...
Yep it's better than clonopin and Zantax it's not addictive. I used to be on that I remember the first time I took it 2 hours before work and I was a zombie
I know two people who’ve taken Buspar and they both liked it for long-term use but not as-needed for anxiety. Like antidepressants, Buspar takes a few weeks to start being effective. Personally, I take klonipin because I prefer quick relief … but I imagine long term relief is the better way to go. Sending you strength and support on your journey! 🫂
