Buspar

Currently taking 20mg of Prozac and using Xanax when needed which has been a lot lately for anxiety and panic attacks. My Doctor added 7.5mg of buspar twice a day. Has anyone had this before? Did it work? Did it make things worse? I'm always nervous to try new treatments.

I switched to buspar in September. For me it does not cover as well as klonopin, but it is supposed to be non addictive. I am on 60 milligrams, 30 twice a day. It takes a bit to start working. My anxiety is not out of control or anything, it is just not like taking a benzodiazepine. Best of luck with everything.

Did it not work for you? Did it make things worse?

Hi Gloria. I used to take buspar on top of cymbalta and it worked well for me. Just gave me a little more of the anti anxiety med that i needed. No worries. When i felt I didn't need it anymore i went off it with the advice of my doc without a problem. Good luck. 👍

I found that it has no side effects and I've been on 10 mg / day for a month. I prefer it to my last benzo, Ativan. Ativan is addicting and made me sleepy at times.

Thank you so much for sharing. I know all meds work different for everyone but that's what I'm worried about, any negative side effects that could my anxiety worse.

I'd give it a try. Plus, it is "pregnancy safe" (in the same category as Tylenol). That should give you extra assurances. You'll need to be on it about a month to see the full effects. You'll notice an improvement and without it hitting you over the head (you won't feel "funny" odd).

Thanks for pointing that at out. It does make it seem likely to have less serious side effects if it can be given to pregnant women.

I have been taking Buspar along with another medicine for anxiety and panic attacks for a long time.

I did not have any side effects but I never noticed any difference with how I felt. I asked my Dr about this and she said it does work for an anxiety even if you don't notice it.

So, I would say not to worry about taking it, but don't expect much help from it either. That's just been my experience.

I also have been taking Buspar along with other meds, and it really does help. It's just not something that you feel right away - and I have great difficulty remembering how I felt a week or month ago, which always makes it hard to judge if a med is helping. But comparing my answers to the psychiatrists questions before and after, it is clear that the Buspar is helping.

Buspar is nothing like Xanax. It takes time to build up in your system. So fat I haven't had any side effects but it's not helping me sleep any better. I still use Xanax when I need it.
