I’ve been on escitalopram for 4 months, dose was increased two months ago to 15mg, but it’s not helping. Can I do a direct switch to citalopram without tapering down

Hi kippy2, I wouldn't do anything before talking with your doctor. Maybe just
maybe 20mg will do the trick. Your doctor knows best how to make this transfer
in raising your dosage one last time or switching over to another SSRI. Good Luck xx
Everyone is different, but from my experience with it and other SSRIs, it can sometimes take 6 weeks to start seeing full benefit. Also increasing the dosage can some times cause some of the initial side effects of the drug to start again, which often are counter active to the symptoms the drug is intended to treat (anxiety depression, etc.) I really hate the mechanisms of how these drugs work. It takes so long to see any benefit. Speaking for how I would deal with it, since I’ve already invested a month into it, I would try to get to my doctors recommended dose and let it level out for a couple of weeks before I made a full judgement on whether it is helping or not. Hope everything works out for you.
SSRIs didn't help me. I've tried them all. Tried 3 rounds of TMS too. Nothing worked. have been on low dose ketamine and it's helping me a bit.
I think you can make that change with you doctor. I have done it many times. I went from Viibryd to Zoloft. Hope you feel better.
Did you have to gradually taper off one and then start the other or stop one and start the other immediately?
I have done this as well. I just started lowering the dose of the one I was coming off and upping the dose of the one i was starting at the same time. This was under the care of my doctor.
thank you. Did you suffer any withdrawal signs or go further into depression for a while before the new meds kicked in?
