Yet again, here I sit, in front of my lap-top doing the best I can to try to ward off these ever re-occuring symptoms of anxiety that still come around from time to time. Right now, the culprit is anxious breathing, with current sinus issues not helping at all. Rainy weather lately with humidity making it a bit worse. Along with this is back issues probably from deeper breathing, tough to find a happy medium without over-breathing which seems to happen automatic. Then I start thinking about going back to the gym thinking that this will help with anxiety issues, only to be worried by negative thoughts that back issues might get worse with probable over-doing it. I used to work out 5 days a week, then stopped going about 2 years ago because of covid being picked up there. Plus, being older doesn't help, turning 69 in a few months and need to be a bit more careful with weights. Lost most of my muscle mass with the 2 year lay-off. I just seem to be worried more about almost everything it seems. Some days I'm just fine and not bothered by anything negative, then times like now I'm reduced to this, with just moving around the house trying to think of other things hoping the thoughts just fade away, but being alone here doesn't help much with it being after 3 in the morning.

Persistant anxiety symptoms
" Then I start thinking about going back to the gym thinking that this will help with anxiety issues"
I'm being a hypocrite ATM, because I need to walk more myself, but what about walking outside in the mean time?
Do you have a decent walking path by where you live?
Hi AnxiousSilver. Glad you mentioned this, I do go for walks. Only thing is, not here where I live, in the city, and not at 3 in the morning, very risky here. I used to like when some stores would be open 24 hours, it really helped just driving to them and just walk around looking at items to occupy and keep mind off of negative thinking. But covid changed everything, stores here are closing up much sooner, usually around 9 or 10.

I'm in the Chicagoland area myself.
& I still try to walk around my subdivision when I can. (but to be honest, I haven't been too good on that lately)
.
I think once the colder weather comes, I might sign up at the local rec center this year. (their walking track from what I hear is free to residents)
I keep saying that every year that I will do it, but I have some concerns about that too, and I end up just walking in the area around my house (freezing outside) but the little that I walk is better than nothing I guess.
Just joined. This is my first read. I have suffered many years with anxiety and depression. I've had many good years and a couple bad weeks/months along the way. Cannot speak for you but my saving grace is the gym. Resistance training does something to my chemicals. I hope you can get yourself back there. You don't have to be perfect and you don't have to impress anyone but yourself. Go light on the back but do push yourself. Being around others (btw I have met many depressed and anxious people at the gym) is always a good thing. I wish you the best.
I agree with you bbnb. Working out at the gym as well as aquatics, made me do
physical things that I never knew I could do. The effects were both physically and
mentally rewarding. Resistance Training does give us a chemical high.
Thanks for joining into the conversation. We Welcome you to a great support
system. xx
Hi gbn, Always best to get your doctor to suggest what you can and can't do
physically. Most of us suffer physical aches and pains because we are deconditioned.
As long as you are closed in your house, it can be difficult for your mind to expand
to other thoughts, short of if you had a hobby.
Getting out, seeing people, experiencing life all around you can allow you to
breathe normally w/o thinking about it. Keep your day filled with things to look
forward to whether it's a special show you like, going out to lunch, ordering in,
organizing your closets or tool area etc. In other words, doing things where you
can see the results. Walking back and forth throughout the house and looking
out the window accomplishes nothing. Try not taking naps during the day so
that when you get in bed at night, your mind will know it's time to rest and regenerate.
xx
Hello Agora1. You always give the best advice and it is always pleasant to read(as with all on here). I appreciate each and everyone on here, I know I'm not alone.
gbn_ you are absolutely not alone but unfortunately the numbers keep growing
each day. Together we can make the difference by learning from each other's
journey. Take what works for you. Before long you will have a tool box filled with
many useful methods that will guide your path to success. Happy Day, Happy Life,
one step at a time xx
