Antidepressants ....and their side effects.?

I quite recently was prescribed Mirtazapine 15mg and i do feel slightly less anxious, and am told after another 2 weeks i should double the dose.

However the thought of the side effect of massive weight gain worries me no end as already i have put on half a stone in a relatively short time, and i fear that will not help my depression at all.

If i continue like this i will be the size of half a house and that will cause me another distress.😱🥵

I’ve just been prescribed these and they’ve really helped. I’m sleeping through the night for the first time in ages and I feel more in control. I understand about the weight gain but I’d rather be overweight and depressed. Good luck x

I agree, I was put on a course of antidepressants last year and they helped me so much, I’m still on a very low dose and I may be lucky but I ve out on no weight , even though I could do with some, that’s just me., also on beta blockers

I’m on beta blockers for a rapid heartbeat and they’ve really helped me. Summer definitely makes a difference x

I too take Mirtazapine 15 mg and started about 5 years ago. It really does help with sleep. I have heard though on an increased dose you don’t get the same sleep benefits, something maybe worthwhile discussing with you doctor. As regards weight I have stayed the same for years now although still am chunky monkey size-wise…

Feeling better is way more important than some weight gain, in my humble opinion.

You will not gain that much!

Personally, I agree with 53Arnhemmy, you can always lose the weight when you feel better and more motivated and it's better to feel better and be stable for a period of time and sustain it.
