at your age it’s important to figure out the root cause. Do you know?

well it depends on the type of memory loss. Forgetting your books at home every day could just be that you have a lot on your mind. In which case slowing down, mindfulness practices, exercise. Or task management. Is your class schedule intense?

Forgetting who your mother is is cause for concern. I’d contact your doctor.

Word puzzles and reading fiction are ways to exercise your brain. Fiction because you have to remember what happened earlier in the plot.

I’d say cannabis but I know better :p

I don’t know about treatments Hiba but I think memory issues can be caused by stress, anxiety and depression. Have you spoken to your doctor?

I have at one point she gave me sunflower oil medication to help but didn't see any improvement

Maybe you could tell her the sunflower oil medication didn’t work and could she offer another treatment.

I don’t know about sunflower but salmon oil is touted as being beneficial in improving memory and cognitive ability. I’ve tried it when I really needed to be on my game (I was on an 9-week incredibly intensive course that involved both theory and practical) and I’m not sure whether it was the Omega 3 or simply my believing it would work but I feel it did help.

I agree 100% with reference to memory issues being affected by depression and anxiety. For years I too have struggled with periodic issues with my memory. My head feels foggy and I feel like I have to read a sometimes 5 times and still I forget. It’s frustrating.

at your age, I agree with Rachmaninov2. Also try and get enough sleep. Is it possible to take a few less credits this semester or next?

Dear- or should that be Dearest Hiba,

There are no 'Magic wands, to Better memory BUT, there are, Crosswords, Codewords, Missing Letter Games, Sudoku (good luck with this one!), Removed Object Games- along with 'Normal' Memory Games. Try this get a tea tray, or similar, ask a friend/ family member to place on it several Items- perhaps Pencils, Tea Bags, a Thimble, Roll of cotton Etc. Try perhaps six 'things' first of all- 'Building Up' to say Twelve.

Study the Tray for, to begin with, maybe five minutes- then have your friend Remove an Item, whilst you look away. Try to remember which item was removed. Continue this Game until you can Remember ALL the Objects, after only a Short 'Look'.

Use Variations, where you Remember Shopping Lists, Appointments (this is Very Helpful) and, of course Family Birthdays!

DON'T 'Rush' this, SLOWLY 'Build Up' your Memory Capacity, it WILL 'Come', you will be Amazed. if you want other Games/ Memory Aides please do let me know Hiba. Perhaps we can write a Story, between us?

Love, as always

Andrew.

sleep for me drives most of my memory slips. Anxiety causes me not to sleep. It’s a bit of a cycle. I try to do both math and word games too. I know it is scary though. Especially when you are used to being on top of things. I remember a few weeks ago rounding up my kids. They are dressed and in car waiting…God bless them. I went back upstairs to get something and forgot the kids were waiting. I had to ask jokingly where we were going…but I actually didn’t remember. Thankfully it wasn’t something important!

Try to get enough sleep, (otherwise that increases the chances of what I call a "fog head") the next day.

I'm suffering from this badly atm but I am an old girl. Seriously though, I have been going through a lot of stress recently, and if it's not age-related, and it doesn't get better, I'll have to see my doctor. As for you, it's probably stress as well. Try not to overload yourself, but relax into your studies; they're meant to be interesting. If you keep up to date with your assignments you will avoid any further stress. I expect it's temporary, so just relax 😊 but not too much 😜

I saw a brain health specialist because I had SEVERE memory issues from long Covid. One major issue for me was my hormone levels, so I started on HRT. If you had Covid, I strongly suggest getting your levels tested no matter your age, as they are finding many folks of all ages have hormone imbalances post Covid. I then started on a number of supplements, all focused on combatting inflammation and anxiety. Obviously, check with your doctor before starting any supplements, but what has helped me are: NAC and Vitamin D (VERY important to check with doctor as they can also thin blood and increase bleeding), magnesium, quercetin, Vitamin C, glycine and bromelain. Finally, I use pemf and AVE devices, and both have helped me tremendously. Just a few things for you to consider and maybe look into.

I had social anxiety for years which affected my ability to be present and my memory at the time because of hyper-vigilance which could be causing your memory problems. If you are in a constant hyper-vigilance mode it will impact your memory and ability to be present.
