Has anyone tried this new medication recently approved for mdd ? If your not familiar with it look it up on their website. I'm considering trying it as it looks promising. I have mdd and treatment resistant depression only have had some luck with lamictal. Would love to hear anyone's input.

No but it says that it is bupropion with a cough suppressant. If money is a factor then you could try a bupropion generic since it is difficult to know if these meds work anyway. TBH they are a lot of hit or miss but pharma makes money off doctors who prescribe. Not saying that is your doctor's motive but it is what it is. Try Mark Cuban's drug company if you decide to go with it.

I am chained to lamictal. When I went through a bought of depression a couple years ago I took Viibryd and it worked pretty well. Also branded but it was not sedating which is good for me.

Thanks for the input . Looks like the manufacturer may have the 10 buck co pay to try to get you hooked. My dr mentioned about a year ago this was coming. I'm no scientist but apparently the wellbutrin helps bind and extend the cough formular in the brain giving the antidepressant effect. Who knows crazier things have worked for some. When I try it I will list my findings. Suppose to work in like 3 to 7 days.

your copay is dependent on your insurance. Doctors only know what they get paid if they even do the paperwork. If you change insurance they may or may not cover it. People get surprised all the time. That's why I take the copay with a grain of salt and avoid something branded if I can. Wellbutrin is an antidepressant. The other is the additive. If you have never tried wellbutrin you have no idea if that additive is necessary. But it is new and shiny so it must be better.

All it is is Benadryl added to the Wellbutrin. It's crazy, cuz i was prescribed an antihistamine for anxiety, so i decided to try off brand Benadryl to see if it helped (since the diphenhydramine was cheaper than hydroxyzine) & it surprisingly does. This was after i was already on Wellbutrin, so i know the combination separately helps with anxiety & depression for me. I never thought about it the combination of those 2 being what made it work so well for me, until this medication was written about on psychology today & other mental health websites. It's worth trying it separately if it's that much cheaper, IMO.

Auvelity is a combination of dextromethorphan (cough suppressant) and bupropion XL. The bupropion is not the active ingredient though it may help a little as a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor. It's main purpose is to keep the dextromethorphan from breaking down too quickly. What makes it different is that it acts quickly (1-2 weeks), and it acts on the glutamate system of the brain like ketamine does, vs regulating serotonin, norepinephrine or dopamine. I would recommend watching Dr. Tracy Marks' video on it.

I know a lot about it because my psychiatrist gave me samples after trying 3 other antidepressants with no success and I did a lot of research. It worked amazingly well! I felt a difference in about a week, and by 2.5 weeks the anxiety and depression were gone! Problem is, my insurance wouldn't cover it. The manufacturer won't give you a discount unless your insurance covers some part of it, so check that first. It's about $1200 a month retail! I was ready to fight them on it, but we switched to Bupropion XL alone and it's working for me. At first I regressed, but with a dose increase, I'm feeling like myself again...again.

I honestly feel like the Auvelity reset something in my brain, but who knows, maybe the bupropion would've worked all along? If it didn't work by itself, my psychiatrist wanted me to try adding cough syrup twice a day. That's not quite the same, but similar to Auvelity. That's something to consider too if your insurance won't cover it. Best of luck!
