hi all,

I have the hardest time finding ways to cope with my anxiety and depression. My go to is eating and that has caused me to gain weight to the point where my mom is nagging me and thinks I need to do an IOP program. I haven’t gained that much weight in my opinion but I need other ways to help cope with my anxiety and depression other than eating.

We tend to do things to comfort us or give us that feel good feeling. Turning to food is one of the biggest struggles but pretty common with anxiety and depression. I think it has to do with finding something else that can give you that good/comfort feeling that food does. You can always lose weight so don’t beat yourself up for it or let others especially family.

What works for me: walking, reading, doing crosswords, doing something creative. I do needlework, paint watercolors, create little books that have empowering quotes. Sometimes nothing works, so I power through and tell myself it won't last. Good luck.

For me, I find I get good feelings through yoga, meditation, walking, having tea, praying, helping people, telling someone I love them. 😍

You might look into improving your self-esteem and self-worth and learning to set healthy boundaries for yourself to help yourself and your relationship with your mother so her comments don't affect you and you can tell her to stop transferring her issues to you. There is a lot of good info on youtube about this that you may find helpful.
