Desperately needing coping skills...

First off I suffer from major depression more than I would like to admit. I don't have any coping skills,Except for recreational drugs, that I have stopped taking. I have a lot of changes going on in my life right now,and I just don't know how to deal with it all!!!

Hello Unwiseowl. I am sorry to hear you are having a difficult time. You said you quit using recreational drugs, have you tried replacing this with a positive habit? Maybe try exercise for endorphins, meditation or anything that interests you! Sorry I can’t provide better coping skills, but I hope this maybe helps a little. I hope things get better for you soon!

I do go walking/hiking when the weather is warmer...and it does help.

Someone once challenged me to try running every day for just a 10 days. Changed my life. Here’s the rule: at least a mile but doesn’t have to be more, every day for 10 days no matter what, don’t worry about the pace at all (except that it should be heartbeat-raising). That’s it. Finish 10 days? Take a day or two break and try again. Helped my mood tremendously. Also got me couch to 5k and then even 20k within a year.

For what it’s worth - was super hard at first but became my thing. It’s a simple rule. Worked for me at least - your mileage may vary.

I’d love to try it... pity that my mind found already millions of obstacles- first one: it’s such a killing smog, second: tooo cold!

I wish my mind changed

Please check out Douglas Bloch on youtube as well as bignoknow. They were extremely helpful!!! Please try. Recreational drugs are a no go for depression. It'll make it worse. Sending healing thoughts your way!

Make sure that you get out of the house and get fresh air and exercise. I know it doesn't really sound like anything but it really does work. You don't even have to be athletic, just go for walks around the block.

Staying cooped up and isolating yourself only makes things worse.
