anxious when hearing certain sounds?

AnxiousCanadianChic profile image

does anyone else get anxiety or anxiety attacks when hearing certain sounds?

I noticed that during karaoke I get anxious from the way someone laughs or a tone while they’re singing or if there is a large get together and the background noise of all the chatter.

This is emotional abuse:(

Have to wonder why people think this is OK to do. It's cruel

I'm sorry they treat you this way

Yes, I can’t stand chewing sounds. It makes me have panic and anger at the same time. Fingers down a chalk board (actually causes pain in my teeth). Loud noises bother me, I get nervous when there’s multiple sounds going on at once. I get sensory overload. I usually have to counteract it with something that will calm me down.

thanks everyone. I thought I was imagining it it that it was possibly my epilepsy.

I have to add that this only happens when I’m in public, never at home.

*Raises Hand*

Noise bothers my anxiety pretty bad.

I'd like to talk more about it down the road, but (for now) it has been an issue for me my entire life. :(

I have this problem also. Heightened response to sudden unexpected noises.

I also hate the sound of a phone ringing. It had a solid base in my trauma, sends my anxiety into a spin

For me it goes well past phone ringing. :(

It's literally most noise. But it's more noise that is caused by stress.

or IDK mayyybe I notice it more when I'm stressed.

.

This is eventually why I need my own topic about this, because this goes well past certain sounds.

^ & That's what frustrates me, because a lot of people that have this is usually a certain sound, (maybe 2 or 3) but for me it's "noise" especially when I'm anxious or stressed. :(

.

Usually it causes me severe anxiety or panic attacks.

& My mind gets all irrational.

This is a something that I've been dealing with my whole life, it goes all the way back to fire drills in grammar school. (but also goes well past that)

& It's not something that I can really meditate away, but that's a whole other convo.

Siver:

This is a tough one, especially where it seems engrained in you. It's so hard to live on edge with a startle reflex that is so broad.

I am glad you shared that. Opening up in a place where we can see so many others have the same issue os helpful.

Stay strong Silver. Sending you peaceful vibes.

I used to have a severe fear of the phone ringing as I got a call from my mom when I was 18 telling me my brother died from cancer. After that it was AWFUL, I was terrified of getting a call about my mom(she was my everything). Now that I’ve lost her the phone doesn’t bother me.

Now it happens at karaoke. It seems like the odd person has something in their voice that makes my anxiety sky high. I also get bad anxiety when there is a large group near me and that background chatter does something.

Yes. My husband is a professional musician, and drums with his fingers incessantly. It makes me want to scream, I can't handle it. Raucous music does it too.

It was literally an overnight change for me. A bad prescription damaged my hearing, and that's all she wrote. I lost most of the tunes I grew up with forever.

This too: I remember old folks complaining "the music you kids listen to sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard". I thought they were all exaggerating, missing the good old days. The Glenn Miller orchestra. Nope. They were right.

Now I'm the crazy old lady.

I'm very bitter that it happened overnight, when I was still young.

I wondered if mine could be related to my ear(s) but it’s only at karaoke(then again I don’t go anywhere else lol).
