4 hours of sleep.... give me a freakin break!

I was feeling very sleepy around 10PM last night so I was certain that I would sleep better than I have been during the last few weeks. Jumped into bed and knocked out very quickly. Well, that was short lived because I woke at 2AM. It's now 5:15AM and I haven't been able to shut it back down. I have plenty of sleeping pills but I hate taking them because the next day I feel like I have a massive hangover. Xanax helps me sleep better with fewer side effects but I'm afraid of getting hooked so I don't take them often. There are a few facilities in my area who are treating mental health disorders with certain psychedelics (which I would try without hesitation) but the cost is prohibitive and of course health insurance won't cover it. I knew a neighbor who's wife had the treatment with Ketamine about 2 years ago and her live was transformed completely. Unfortunately it's a multiple treatment course and they paid about $2000.00 (USD) per treatment. So yeah, that ain't happening for me unless I win the lottery. Before my divorce I would have been able to take money out of pension and pay for that treatment. After my divorce I can't take enough money from pension to buy a pack of chewing gum...... don't mind me, I'm angry about those 4 lousy hours of sleep so I'm bitching

I understand. My sleep has been broken like yours often. I have some sleep patches that seem to help me fall asleep and stay asleep for longer stretches. They are made by a company called The Good Patch. You can find them on Amazon or at Target or Walmart. :)

Im definitely going to be looking into that. At this point, I'll try anything.... or just about anything

lol! I hear you! I’ve got weighted blankets. Tried sleep stories. Tea. You name it I’ve tried it. Lol

You know something..... I'm glad you mentioned the weighted blankets. I've always been curious about that but I never knew anyone who actually tried one before. I'm guessing it didn't work for you, should I even waste the money

both my wife and I tried it. She has severe insomnia while mine is intermittent. The weighted blanket actually made it worse for both of us.

Actually I do like it! At one time I couldn’t lay in bed without being super heart aware. Didn’t matter how I laid I could feel my heartbeat or hear it. The blanket helps that a lot. It also makes me feel less restless. As for keeping me asleep nah, not really.

a few years ago I had that same issue about being very heart aware. I used to speak to my cardiologist about it and of course he used to look at me like I was a moron. One of the reasons why he's no longer my current cardiologist. Anyway, maybe I'll order one through Amazon and try it for a couple weeks. If it doesn't work I can always return

That’s a good idea! Couldn’t hurt to try, if anything it will make a good couch blanket for watching movies 😁

I have a weighted blanket as well. I like it, especially in the winter time.

As far as the Xanax, I take it about every other day. I too wake up about between 3am - 4am. I am on disability at home, so, I fiddle around on my phone, or listen to an audiobook. Then like dracula, I go back to sleep when the sun comes up for a few hours.

Same exact situation for me...... you said it, Dracula!

I am having the same type of sleep problems. There is a kind of therapy called CBTi for insomnia. There is a good video on YouTube on CBTi posted by ADAA GotAnxiety.

Thank you..... I really appreciate this information and I'm definitely going to see that video. Sometimes I'm so exhausted I can't even see straight. Too many years fighting with this. Thanks again

Im sorry. Have you tried melatonin?

oh yeah. Still have tons of it left over in my medicine drawer. I actually just looked up that information you sent. I definitely have to find a new psych doctor. I haven't had any treatment since the middle of the pandemic. Unfortunately my psych doctor at the time passed away and it's been almost impossible to find a new therapist in my area who is taking new patients. I see this video is a little over an hour long so I'm going to start watching it now. I love stuff like this

I have untreated sleep apnea. I get on average 4 hours a night of interrupted sleep. Wake up exhausted. Just food for thought….🍀meds don’t really help.
