hyperventilating

Hi, I’ve got several serious health conditions, I had a heart attack in June so ive been on edge ever since.

I was driving yesterday and began to feel anxious and unwell. I have tinnitus which always makes me feel stressed. By the time I’d finished my journey and got out of the car I was feeling worse, by the time I’d walked a short distance I was hyperventilating and felt I was going to faint.

As soon as I was with people I felt ok. I was a bit wobbly but I also diabetic so put it down to low sugar. Has anyone had the hyperventilation experience and how did you cope ?

Ive never hyperventillated. I wish you were feeling better. I have full blown type 2 diabetes. i have an ulcer on my toe. Do you have a doctor monitoring you? Do you keep hard candy on you? I wish i was there with you

apologies, I’ve recently seen your reply. I’m getting better regards hyperventilating. I think stress is causing this through not being in a routine.

I think fear of the unknown can affect me, like travelling to a new place or a distant place. I’ve found a doctor will want to give me tablets to calm me down but that’s not curing the problem.

I was off sick for months and i guess returning to work was a challenge. I have glucose tablets hidden away in my pocket/ car in case my sugar goes low.

Glad you’re recovering well but so sorry you experienced that episode. Most likely the worry and fear brought it on. Apparently it’s common to hyperventilate in anxiety or panic. I have experienced it. Were u doing any relaxation breathing when it happened? Cause that could have triggered it from trying to do the breathing in a rush. Try deep slow inhale from your nose hold it three seconds and exhale slow from your nose. And do it in sets of 3 as long as you need to feel relaxed. Hugs.

I was just walking to work ( a short distance) so my breathing should have been appropriate for walking. I’ve found I’m not good in new situations, I like familiarity. Since I’d been off work for about 6 months I think I felt disorientated going back to work. I’m not sure if you can do breathing exercises when walking?

that makes sense. Maybe the panic in and of itself triggered the hyperventilating. I’d probably stop and do the breathing exercises for a few minutes, but you can try them while walking if u practice doing that. I do walking meditation from time to time and try to practice the exercises while walking just to have another relaxing tool.
