This morning for breakfast we have had kale, scrambled eggs and baked beans which we have enjoyed as here we decided to make the most with the food we have in stock so it doesn't get thrown in the bin and wasted and we also feel we get our money's worth when all the food we have in stock gets used up!
Yesterday was kale, eggs, leftover ham along with baked beans and toast which was enjoyable as well and also a lie in until 11am that I enjoyed.
Thing is things like making sure you get good nutrition is something you do control as well as how you behave towards various stresses that you can't do anything about like the traffic on the road and the weather!
Years ago I worked in catering and it was criminal the amount of food they threw in the bin that could easily have been reused.
One lunchtime after service one of the cooks had taken some chickens off the bain Marie and threw them down the waste disposal which could have been used for the evening dinner service.
Even before various events came along I would always feel angry over the unfair distribution of food in the world!
I agree. There is so much waste. There are many people that are struggling. If these restaurants could take the time and make some calls I bet there would be people willing to get in their car after hours and go pick up food.
As a child of the fifties we were brought up to eat what was given us or go without, no choice , whatever was left was for the pet dogs , no tinned dog food for them. This has stuck with me all my life , I think people will have to learn , waste not want not 👍
Child of the Late 40's here. We had rationing until I was around 6. Don't waste food, elastic bands, 2 litre plastic bottles get cut in half to make mini greenhouses for seedlings. I grow most of my own veggies.
Some restaurants use plastic tubs for their food, Clean 'em up and reuse for all kinds of things.
Paper gets composted, cardboard gets opened up wetted and laid on the ground under soil to go for an experiment in permaculture, Some smaller cardboard boxes can be used to make smaller planters with concrete, small one inside the bigger one, remember to put corks or similar in the bottom for drainage.
Pallets can be used for all kinds of things, indoors and out. Bricks and planks can make a good coffee table or a side table, or even bookcases.
Haven't tried making a bed yet, but I'm working on it!
Cheers, Midori
It won't hurt Prince Pixie to get smaller amounts in his dish!
