Is anyone on Venlafaxine?I feel that it's helping but have gained some weight. Anyone else have this issue?Are there any antidepressants that don't make you gain weight?

I've taken venlafaxine for many years, it's been very helpful for me. It's not made me gain weight I don't think. Venlafaxine isn't one of the antidepressants known for weight gain as I understand. Though that doesn't mean it couldn't affect your weight.

Bupropion is another antidepressant that is known to be one of the more weight neutral antidepressants.

Hi im currently on Venlafaxine or “Effexor” and have been for a while as well. I’ve only experienced loss of appetite while on it which was explained to me as a common side effect. I am on a pretty high dose and I can tell you that if the amount of weight gain is drastic it is worth talking to your primary Doctor or psychiatric Doctor about. Some people do put on weight or lose weight in small amounts, but it was explained to me by my psychiatrist when I started Effexor to not be a common side effect. And if the number is drastic in either situation weight gain or loss I was told to contact him or my primary Doctor. I hope you find this information helpful or can use it in some way.

Thanks, just 10lbs but I haven't had much motivation to exercise so that could be it too.

Hi Aurora, i am on venlafaxine and didnt gain weight until i added mirtazapine. I put on 1 & 1/2 stone with it. I came off the mirt because it didnt suit me but the weight didnt come off,althou only on venlafaxine now. I think venlafaxine does mess with your metabolosm. But to be honest if its doing you good i would just cut down on the unhealthy fatty foods rather than switch meds because venlafaxine is one of the best antidepressant about.
