Medication

So after being on Cymbalta for two years, it’s no longer working for me. Last fall due to unforeseen circumstances I lost my PCP, went through withdrawal and was put back on it by my new PCP this January. I never completely got over the side effect hump after being put back on it but was able to tolerate it. Since finishing school in April the side effects have gotten severe. To the point where I either have to switch medications (to Zoloft) or go off for awhile. My dilemma is here is that I’m starting a new job next week, and it’s not not just a job; it’s a career. I recognize that it could be potentially stressful, and I could potentially relapse. While I’m definitely in a better place now than when I started emotionally. I haven’t been nearly as depressed and my anxiety has been manageable. But I’ve also been medicated. The timing is not opportune but I have to choose and I don’t know what to do. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Anyone taken Zoloft or gone off meds? Any advice would be appreciated.

Congratulations on landing a career job! I take Zoloft. I’ve been on it and off of it and on it again a few times. The very first time I took it I did have some side effects for the first two weeks. The first week especially. But everyone seems to react so differently to everything. If I had to choose I’d probably pick switching to Zoloft over going completely off meds at the start of a new job. But everybody’s different, I’m sure it will be ok whichever you choose. Good luck to you!

I’ve heard it’s difficult coming off Zoloft. Have you had any issues?

To be honest, the times I was coming off of it were usually when I was beginning to take something different so the side effects of the new medications and the side effects of stopping Zoloft were kind of indistinguishable. As long as you taper off of it under a doctor’s care, I think you will manage just fine. Sorry I can’t be of more help!

No you’ve been a big help! Thank you! I just don’t know anyone whose been on Zoloft or tried to actually live without medication so I just needed some other’s perspective.
