Medication concerns

I probably need medication to ease symptoms of depression and anxiety, but I have questions before I take that step. Will medication improve my quality of life? Can I diet successfully while taking medication? I am trying to lose weight that I have gained while depressed (about 75 pounds, unfortunately), and I am afraid that medication will keep me from losing and maybe even cause more weight gain. Any advice??

The meds made me gain fifty pounds then I quit. Be careful. I don't think it's necessary.

Wow - what medication were you taking, if you don't mind my asking?

I took rosperadol

and Buspar for seven years. Too many side effects and weight gain. I am better without them.

If you can find other ways to ease your anxiety and depression, please try. Maybe exercise, yoga, talk therapy, etc. medications really mess with your head and can sometimes make things worse before they get better. I have tried Zoloft, lexapro and mirtrazapine. Gained weight on all three not to mention I had weird thoughts on all of them. Insomnia also. Not to mention that you become a guinea pig for doctors. They just keep trying different meds until one works. The process is hell.

Thank you for your honesty. I am wondering why so many people are on these medications if the side effects are so severe. Glad for the warning.

Well that’s just me. I have friends who swear by them and feel they changed their lives for the better. I am very sensitive to medication. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

I got off all of it. Much better without it

I was prescribed risperidol and refused that in addition to Paxil. Right now I feel better without all of it but who knows. How are you getting by without it.

I quit everything after seven years. I don't think I needed it in the first place. I think I was misdiagnosed in the hospital.

I think we all react differently to the meds. I’ve read studies how Prozac can actually help people lose weight, and it works great for depression and anxiety. You just need to weigh the pros and cons and just because you start a medicine does not mean you have to stick with it. I went through many before I found the right prescriptions and doses. I hope that you find something that helps you.

That's one of the problems with a lot of meds...weight gain...I'm on celexa and have not found it to be a problem....I don't see why you can't exercise on any meds... as for improving the quality of your life..I can only answer for me...yes 100% it has helped me greatly and I look at life now through rose colored glasses, which is wonderful! I wish you all the best....
