Low Sodium

I am taking Fluoxetine it makes me feel quite well. The problem is that my sodium levels are too low. I know Fluoxetine can lower my sodium. I really don't want to change my antidepressant. Last time this happened I was put on Cipalatram I was very weepy. I am scared in case this happens again. any ideas how to improve sodium levels. I'm dreading stopping the Flouoxatine.Any advice I will be gratefull.

I don't know. I think it could be harmful.

Maybe get some advice? salt is in a ton of foods. You could monitor it with a food tracker and measure your blood pressure.

Drinking too much fluid can effect the sodium levels. This issue should really be discussed with your MD.

It's a complex balance of your system. You first need to be sure it's all directly related to the medication.

I had the same problem with Paxil. I switched to Cymbalta which is less like;y to cause issues with sodium. My doctor says the other options are returning to Paxil, but going to the doctor for a blood test weekly to check sodium. The only other option would be Mirtazapine which does not affect sodium at all.

Hi Benmaise. I hope you’re able to keep taking Fluoxetine. I took it for many many years and it really helped me throughout my life! I’m currently taking something different but that’s always been the one pill that has done wonders for me

Hi Benmaise,Is your sodium really low, according to your medical provider, or did you get a lab report where the level was 1 or 2 numbers below normal? People don't have low sodium for no reason. Have a talk w your provider and see what s/he says.

I don't know how low my sodium levels are. I just had a phone call telling me. My doc seems to think it is because of the Flouoxatene pills I take.
