The surviving

It’s a day by day thing, finding that tiny little speck of light in the middle of the darkness, finding the motivation to keep going, whether it’s a person you love, a furry companion that adores you, kids that depend on you. I read somewhere that’s it’s perfectly acceptable to stay alive for even the tiniest reasons…

Today’s Monday, my tiny reasons are there’s a ton of books I have yet to read, music I haven’t listened to, I would miss going to the park with spidey on days like this where everyone’s at work, I would miss how noisy he is when eating watermelons.

I still carry your poem in my mobile phone and reread it from time to time. You know, the one that starts: "I wish you had met me before the anxiety began, before the betrayal..." As I said before, you are a gifted creative writer and this is what you should live for. Maybe you do. But never give up persuading the world of your talent. I hope you are closer to gaining recognition and success. But most highly creative people have some degree of instability, it's the price you pay for the gift.

in reply to Jeff1943

Thank you for your kind words, and I would love to write professionally I’m still not sure about recognition since I’m afraid of loosing my privacy but I am in a middle of getting a contract signed as a ghostwriter and giving up the byline for a publishing company, they agreed to pay me the amount I asked for per words my only issue is their strict deadlines policy, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to handle that kind of pressure and how it might affect my love for writing

in reply to Jeff1943

If you could give me any advice on that matter it would be greatly appreciated

The ghost writing job should bring you a good income and a chance to hone your writing skills, well worth persuing and if the deadlines are too much pressure you can always withdraw.

But that's not what you want to do for the rest of your life. I presume you want to become an author of fiction. Unfortunately books of poetry don't sell no matter how brilliant. So write a book with a well thought out plot and send a precis and first chapter to as many Literary Agents as you can find. Publishers no longer accept manuscripts themselves only recommendations from Literary Agents. There's probably a list of them published in the U.S.

Trouble is, everybody fancies themselves as an author and everybody with a lap top has the ability to do it. So a Literary Agent might get 400 manuscripts a month from which he may recommend 20 to publishers. The publisher is getting 20 recommended manuscripts a month from say 20 literary agents. But the publisher only publishes 10 new books a month out of the 400 they receive. So the odds are stacked against new authors but it's still worth trying.

What most aspiring authors do is self publish their book through Amazon or Lulu for a few hundred dollars. Then you have to market it yourself online by using the major online book clubs like Librarything. But you have to learn how to use these online book clubs to promote your book. Self publishing was once considered 'vanity publishing' but not any more, many successful novels started life as self-published. Don't forget to get your book listed (for ever) on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk

I went through all this 7 years ago when I self-published 'Fragments of Tom', it's a lot of fun, it sold o.k. but I had trouble getting my head round the online marketing bit and stupidly turned down an offer of help from a major book reviewer who was enthusiastic about my novel.

As you might have guessed I'm from the U.K. and fairly ancient but it's the same in the U.S. I'm sure.

I never thought I would make a living solely on writing since it started only as a form of therapy, thank you for the advice I’m going to give it a shot and hope for the best outcome
