Don't know why, but I get anxious when I have to drive somewhere. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah I think it’s common I know I get anxious having to drive places sometimes. Music use to help distract me enough.

Me to, especially if it places that I don't know. Normally I have to do a re run if it's for something important like a hospital app. I even have to go in there to make sure that when I need to go I can straight through without getting stressed. So your not alone

Your doing it to yourself by thinking negative, keep driving let the feelings come, the only way to cure the anxious feelings of driving is by doing them tell yourself your o.k. they are only feelings, your a good driver keep thinking positive thoughts..

Even if I am going to see a new Doctor, or have a meeting, or want to go on a short vacation I get anxious. 1. Try this. Go on line to google maps.com/ type in the address and PRINT it out or draw yourself a map on paper. Usually there is a picture of the building/house at the address that shows to the left of the page. Look at the picture, When I can actually see what the house, motel , doctor office or any other looks like it is so much easier to drive to the location.

2. Next you can zoom in on the address and look at the satellite picture instead of the map.

Click on the satelite box bottom left of the screen. Zoom in as close as you can to see what the building , nearby roads and parking lots look like. I used to hate driving but now that I have tools and am in control by knowing what the building/ house looks like (colors, trees etc) and I have a map to follow Even if it is only 5 minutes or 2 blocks away this eases the anxiety. I also use GPS but still study my maps before I go.

3. If it is a large building I will call and ask for directions inside the building and where I can park. Think of it as doing your homework before you go. ( What floor are you located on) If you still are not sure of where you need to be, call and ask. Write the phone number on the map. People are always around to give you directions.

4. Search/Type in the location on the internet and also pictures of the location.

****This may seem like a lot of work to some people but to me It is satisfaction and

gives me the confidence I need to get where I want to go. I actually write the location phone number on the map, and highlight the map, put it beside me in the car and study it one more time before I leave my house. Before I could go nowhere. Now I can go anywhere.

Wow, thanks a lot. I never thought of doing that. Getting familiar with the surroundings especially if I've never been there sounds like something that can really help relieve stress. Thanks again, big help.

I just found a new dentist. Looked at google maps, looked at the area and feel great knowing where it is located and that I can do this. Check out Dishpointer.com, Type in the address and hit the search button. It is a sattelite picture and you can zoom in and look at any building, street, or location you want. You can put in your own address and look at the top of your house. Technology is wild.
