Anxiety About My Weight

Hi, everyone. Over the past year, I've put on some weight. Not tons of weight, but enough that I'm starting to see a difference in my body, and I'm starting to feel self-conscious. The other day, I went to an Easter celebration, and my grandpa made the comment, "You're getting fat!" The last few days, I've felt awful and have even starved myself a little bit because now I'm really worried that I'm letting myself go. How do I maintain a healthy weight while also not obsessing about it and feeling like I need to starve myself?

Hi there. I feel your pain, as I have been experiencing the same. Try to remember that if you're healthy, a little extra weight won't hurt. I have started doing a YouTube pilates program and it has helped my mood a lot! I haven't lost much weight, but I have found that looking foward to it every day has helped how I look at myself. Not quite a gym membership, but just doing something small about it helps me.

Maybe smaller meals would help. Cutting any process foods or hidden sugars in food. Drinking more water will help as well. I have the opposite problem, I cant gain weight. I use to eat more food and even then it was hard to go up in weight. Just my lipid panel increased 🤦‍♂️. Overall, if you are happy with your weight, that is the most important thing. Best Wishes!

Interesting -- I also cannot gain weight. I am sorry you have this problem, but it is also nice to know I am not the only one.

Hey b1, its really hard for me to gain weight. However, if I miss a few meals or eat less i loose weight really fast. I always thought I had a good metabolism but its my system that doesn’t work that well because even loosing weight its hard to lower my lipids. I dont really like that though.

Amazing -- I am exactly the same --lipids a problem, easy to lose weight if I miss a few meals, etc. I was never overweight, but about 2 years ago I had a stomach virus and lost 10 pounds in days. My BMI is now just within the normal range, but as low as possible to still be OK. I would so like to gain even three pounds. My clothes would fit and I would look better which would help with anxiety and depression as well. I don't have any major medical issues. Not very many people have this problem. It's very nice to compare notes. x

Looking at your diet. I lost 20lbs last year via noom. The last five fell off when I added a daily walk to my exercise routine. Whole foods, mostly plants is key. It applies to every sustainable diet. There are many so finding the one for you is possible.
