Why would my doctor prescribe a medication that causes weight gain. That is the one thing that’s causing me anxiousness is poor body image.
Mirtazapine: Why would my doctor... - Anxiety and Depre...
Mirtazapine
I simply would not agree to take it if l were you. We are not obliged to accept what our doctor says.I was on that for a while and hated the weight gain.
I feel if weight is an issue for you as it is for me then it would only cause furthet depression.
Don't take this the wrong way as I'm not judging you or anyone else, this is how I look at medication and my health. Medication only works as good as you let it help you, there is no magic pill, believe me, been there and tried finding it.Medication is there to help us in our fight to help ourselves, if we don't make an attempt to help ourselves medications will not help if you don't have a positive attitude.
Almost 30 years on different depression meds and nothing worked very well until I got over the magic pill mentality and took a active roll in my treatment .
Yes I still have downs days that happen when I get overloaded with outside issues or stressed due to things I can't control but still feel the need to fix the problem.
I was 400lbs and due to heart disease I had a gastric bypass, 7 years later I had a heart transplant and a few of my meds have weight gain as a side effect and in the year I've been on them I have gained weight but realized it wasn't all the medications fault I'm over eating/ eating the wrong things, using my issues as a crutch to be lazy hence putting on weight.
I've since changed my eating habits and gotten a puppy who motivates me to get out and walk, in almost 2 weeks I'm up to walking a mile to 2 miles a day(weather permitting)with her and up from 2 blocks by myself and my weight is going down slowly but down 4lbs with no changes in meds, no magic pill just telling myself I can do this without needing a magic pill
It may not work for all but believing in yourself and getting into the mindset that meds are a tool for you to use not a cure and fighting for yourself will bring more better days than bad.
Even the happiest people in the world have bad days and there's no reason we can't turn some of our bad days into good day's.
Well, that's completely my policy. I certainly don't see mefds a magic pill.
I know different people react differently to pills, but Mirtazapine is pretty noted to cause weight gain.
I feel if there is an alternative med then it should be offered to Cathy1000.
I am a firm believer in also helping yourself with hobbies and exercise.
It's a possible side effect, not a definite side effect.I take 18 different meds a day and all of them have side effects listed and I only had issues with a few of them but in a week my body adjusted and everything is good.
Doctors weight the benefits vs the negatives and a short term side effect is mute to a long term positive treatment.
