zHi. It’s Shnookie. At the very least please call your therapists office and request to talk to the therapist or nurse practitioner NP about tweaking your meds. Also U can try meditation, deep breathing, listening to music U like. I’m here 4 U.
Hugs 🤗 S 😎💪
Hello Mindy, I feel your pain. Anxiety is tough to deal with. Since you won’t be able to see a doctor for a while, please watch asmr videos for anxiety on youtube; it has helped me a lot during my tough times. If you have people in your life you are close to, call them on the phone and talk to them. Connecting with loved ones works a lot too. Once you get the opportunity, do see a doctor. Everything’s gonna be fine. You’re not alone.
Hi mindy, it is true that when on medication long term, it can become ineffective.I agree with Shnookie in that you should call the doctor who prescribed your med.
Do not stop the medication or come off it yourself. Only your doctor knows your
health history and safest way to make any changes they feel are necessary. My best xx
You should switch yourself to psycotherapy. Medication has the worst side effects at least I have experienced it. It causes even more anxiety and depression to you. Psychotherapy or a combination method is the best treatment to deal with anxiety or depression, you should try it as soon as possible.
My Paxil stopped working after 25 years. New medications had to be found But the nurse practitioner tried to get me off the Paxil in too short a period of time. The psychiatrist had to get involved because my brain chemistry was screwed up with the quick withdrawal. It took months and months and more months to get off the Paxil and find another set of meds. Maybe some people can just do without meds but I’m not one of them. Be careful and do what a doctor tells you. I am also in therapy. I need both. Good luck.
So sorry to hear that you are going through this Mindy. I'll echo what everyone is saying here by highly recommending talking to your doctor. Having your SSRI 'poop out' is scary.
In the meantime, you might also search out support that can help manage these symptoms until you can chat with your doctor. There are some recommendations here, but I've also found great support from survivingantidepressants.org/
They primarily provide support for folks looking to do a slow taper off of their prescription, but you'll also find a ton of great help for managing what you are feeling now.
I understand that some medications can quit working after a number of years.
One thing you might consider is a psychopharmacological test which uses your dna to determine which meds are best suited for you genetically. Mine was from Genesight and was paid for by my insurance. I had tried numerous meds without results and tried one the test recommended (Pristiq) and it has worked well. The test really helped take a lot of the guess work out of the process.
