Maybe try dialing 211. They help with locating certain services like health or needing help paying a bill. I think it's United Way that funds it. It's been a while since I've called them.

I hope that helps. I remember I had this great therapist who was so nice to me that she agreed to take me on as her pro bono client cause my insurance was being really weird. And refusing coverage for one reason or another. I really miss her.

Much of it depends on where you live Don. 211 is a good start. There is an organization called NAMI, which I volunteer for, that has resources in each state. Have the individual locate their local NAMI organization to find out more. It's a great resource. I'll PM you.

I've tried looking for low cost but it was very hard. Some places ask for a bunch of info to see if you qualify for low cost health services. A google search for things in your area will bring up resources.

Thank you MoonDreaming, but it’s not for me, I live in the Uk, it’s for a friend in NJ USA.🙂

Oh ok! Have them do a google search. I did a few years back and I got a bunch of things that came up. NAMI was a good resource but I think someone already mentioned it. Also, have them try Meetup, they have groups too but i'm not sure what's available there in NJ. There's also ADAA.org for support groups. I don't think there's much 'free' help that you can find in a snap, they would have to go to a facility and ask for low cost help where they would have to ask for proof of income etc.

You might try the social services office in the County you reside in. Supposedly because of covid they have expanded free or affordable mental health services.

There are free support groups. People just have to look for them.

Some people have success in support group, some are run by social workers, some are very structured and educating others are what I call a " free for all"those were not for me. No structure and most had a " dominant " personality that took over.

I wish your friend good luck in their search

Hi 👋 it’s Shnookie. If your friend is a veteran, he can contact his local V A. I don’t know your friend’s financial status, but if possible he can apply for Medi Cal orMedi Caid and receive free mental health care. I’m on Medi Cal and that’s what I use free for my mental health services

Medicaid, like everyone above said, provides free therapy as long as you see providers who take whichever version of Medicaid your friend’s state offers. The process is cumbersome, 8 pages in Ohio, there is income verification and work history, but easier and faster than applying for Medicare or disability. Which can take years.

Also, some private therapists provide services on a sliding scale. You just have to ask them for income based financial assistance. There are many therapy providers, but I suggest finding an office that a friend or family can recommend.

Good luck to your friend on their wellness journey. It’s a long and winding road with many traveling partners along the way.

Seems it’s all about money in the USA, those that have it, and those that don’t ??

If your friend has an emergency and no insurance they can go to any emergency room. My understanding is that they can’t refuse to treat a person. Just so they know while searching for some insurance. The more you make the more they take (insurance). May only cost him $10 a month on Gov health care. Depends on their income and age. Medicare/Medicade insurance is an option but its complicated and difficult for a lot of people to navigate, therefore it would be helpful to find someone to help them with that. ❤️✌️❤️
