I have had upper right abdomen pain and am worried it is cancer. Ultrasound and blood normal. I always think the doctors have missed something. It isn’t their fault but mine. Just takes over my life

A wide array of things could be causing your pain besides cancer. Easier said than done but try not to focus on the worse thing. You can always ask for an endoscopy and that may give them more clues as to the cause. Thats how they diagnosed me. The source of your pain could be a bug, food intolerance, ulcer etc etc. Hope you find answers and relief from your pain

Your doctor went to medical school for 5 years. How many years did you go to medical school. You say they "must have missed something." But you have health anxiety as part of your anxiety disorder. Every ache and twinge and you jump to the worst case scenario.

But you know all this, don't you, Maisie. You know that an over sensitised nervous system makes every small concern become exaggerated ten fold.

Ask for a second opinion about your abdomen pain by all means. But if the result is the same then accept it. You can't cure yourself of an illness you don't have no matter how hard you try.

The problem is that you're adding second fear to the flash of first fear everytime you feel that tummy ache. This releases more fear hormones which is what keeps over sensitive nervous systems so sensitised. The solution is to stop frightening yourself half to death every five minutes. Over sensitised nerves are so good at mimicking genuine medical illness.

So accept these aches for what they are: something that is not life threatening. As Claire Weekes* once wrote: the stomach is the most sympathetic organ in the body to anxiety.

So deal with the cause of your anxiety. A job you hate. A boss you can't stand. Disappointment. Loss. Toxic relationships. Worrying too much about family members. To name but a few.

Then agree to accept for the time being the symptoms of which you complain. Truly accept them for what they are: fantasies of your over wrought nerves. Truly accept them because you cannot both fear something and accept it.

Slowly your nerves become less sensitised because you are not bombarding them with excess cortisol and adrenaline. Slowly you recover your quiet mind. You can do it, untold millions have over the years according to Claire Weekes, *the woman who cracked the anxiety code.

I have got every respect for the doctor. I think the problem was when the ultrasound results came back it said “ pancreas appeared normal but small lesions could not be seen” unfortunately this started me thinking. I am talking to my GP Monday. She is very nice
