Update: after being discharged no help given

After nearly losing my life and being on the ward for 8 days and having my review pushed back, I’ve found out they’re still not giving me any help. After my discharge, no one has been in touch with me even from my local team Their lack of help is making feel much worse than if I didn’t reach out for help. I’m still on a very long waiting list for NHS therapy with no therapy in the meantime. They just tell me to keep applying for jobs and hopefully things will get better and to call in to the team when I feel low without giving me any treatment. They give me a diagnosis and then give me no help. It’s like they want me to die. I can’t afford private therapy. I don’t know what to do. I hope no one gets to where I am. Because they’re just waiting for you to actually do it.

Im confused as to why they push back your appointments for what reasons and then release you without any communication. Can you reach out to them to see what exactly what to do besides get a job? Doesn't seem once you're released you seem to disappear from their system. I would call and ask them to give you some kind of guidance.

I had the review yesterday before I was discharged. They said I can live with my family and basically said my family can care for me. But they said I’m still on the long waiting list for actual therapy. They don’t know how long I’ll be waiting. I have my local team who give no help because I’m on waiting list to be referred to another team as I moved to another borough. It’s all complicated. But at the end of it, me and my family are on our own. We tried calling my local team today and asked why they haven’t been touch with me. The team leader said it’s because they didn’t want impose and no appointment given for a therapy session.

That's crazy. That's what a team does is to contact you to have a plan for you. Sounds like you need a new team. Sorry you are going thru this type of ignorance of care. Hope you can get into therapy sooner than later.

My team don’t care. I’m on my own. Just another statistic to them.

☹️. Makes me mad. You are not a statistic. You're a person who is getting screwed by the system. Awful.😞

I agree with ChavivLeon.. My guess is that you are in the UK. I understand that there is no charge, but the waiting periods are very long and this is stressful and inappropriate, as well as cruel. I would call again and if necessary go to the emergency room.

Im really sorry to hear about all this Sarah. I have had similar experiences with mental health professionals in the nhs. I honestly think they dont understand how to help everyone and have so little resources to do it. Its sad really. Reading your situation helps me have more compassion with people as I can see how unsupported some may be and feel. You seem like a very caring person and Im really glad that even for a short time some of the patients in hospital got to experience some genuine care from you. It seems like once youre able and if you want to you would be great at working with people with mental health issues or care needs. Some of the kindest mental health workers who have been there for me are ones who have personal experience of mental health problems. They have alot more compassion than others and I always felt comforted by their presence. Even if you choose not to go in to that field, sharing your experiences help alot as many of us no doubt relate and feel inspired to keep fighting like you. I just thought it may give you some encouragement to know how much of an asset you are now and will continue to be because of your experiences. Im sure you provide alot of insight in to mental health that not many people have. Thank you for sharing your experiences and for carrying on fighting. I really hope things improve for you as I do for everyone.

On a related note, I dont know if you realize that since you live in the uk you could be entitled to financial support towards therapy or any other daily living needs because of your mental health. It is called Personal Independent Payment and is available to all those whose mental health affects their ability to live day to day. Here is the number if you are interested....
