Lately I haven't been sleeping much. When something is bothering me I stay up or toss and turn. I've tried melatonin recently and it made me rest but there's some side effects that concerns me. Melatonin can cause depression and irritability which I don't need. I took .5mg twice so far but scared to continue. I'm so tired of fighting to feel better

That's an extremely low dose of melatonin so I don't think you have anything to worry about. My 12 year old takes 3 mg on nights he has trouble getting to sleep and doesn't have any issues. His pediatrician has had him on it since he was 4 with excellent results. I take 2 mg occasionally and the only thing I notice is having more vivid, weird dreams than usual. Now if I take Benadryl or Hydroxyzine to help me sleep, that's when I have horrible irritability.

I started off low because I saw the side effects. I just wanted to be on the safe side. I'll try 1mg next

Oh I didn't mean to make you think you are taking too little. If it helps you sleep at 0.5 mg, then that's awesome! I'm always scared of any new kind of medication or supplement. It's good to be cautious I think. I hope you're able to get some rest. It stinks not being able to rest.

Hi, u didn't do anything wrong. O.5mg helped me sleep the 1st time then when I tried it again it didn't maybe because I had a lot on my mind. I took 1mg it made me sleepy I think I need to try 2mg next. I need a dose that eases my mind because if I'm stressing etc it doesn't work

Hello again. I have some serious problems with insomnia. I've always been more of a night person, I remember even when I was a kid growing up, especially when I started high school which began at 7:30am in the morning, how I had the hardest time getting up and ready in the morning. However, part of the reason for that is that sometimes I'd be up to midnight studying and completing my homework. So now I'm 50 years old, and I am doing some job hunting but I just know myself and I need a job that doesn't start until 8am or 9am, if they want me to come in and be there at 6 or 7am I know eventually I'd just want to quit no matter how much I was paid. Anyhow, I've never tried melatonin but I might look into doing that myself. I find when the evening comes, I need like an hour to slowly unwind before trying to sleep. What really helps me sleep better is listening to some calming, soft music before I try to sleep. Also drinking some milk and having a turkey sandwich or drinking Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea helps me too. Stay away from sugar before you go to bed, avoid cookies and soda pop and all that. That's what helps me. Also, a powerful drug called Restoril helped me sleep when I was hospitalized, but a lot of doctors now won't prescribe it because it's considered a controlled substance. Still, you might want to talk to a regular doctor about these sleep issues you're having, maybe taking something at night would be helpful. Take care.

Hi, i stay up late as well. Sometimes I'm up more than 16 hours. Some days I have to make myself go to sleep before I crash. And when I'm sleep I usually wake up sick so I stay up because of that feeling to. My life sucks

So I have two recommendations. the first is to try journaling before you go to bed. Instead of laying in bed and letting the thoughts run wild let them out. Let them run wild on paper and that should help to clear your mind and give you a sense of calm before bed. The second is eat 2 kiwi's an hour or so before you get ready for bed. Kiwi has serotonin in it and has been shown to aid in mood elevation and improved sleep quality.

That’s great advice on the kiwi and the journaling I need to try those again myself I remember trying it awhile back but don’t remember if if did help or not ?? Anyway I relate to you on the melatonin- I’ve tried it multiple times and it doesn’t seem to agree with me i had blood sugar reaction as well as nightmares when taking it!and it makes sense after doin some research I’d learned it isn’t usually recommended for children actually or ppl under around age 50 or those with autoimmune disorders such as lupus or things like diabetes or asthma - well I have auto immune issues as well as blood sugar issues that can lead to diabetes as well as asthma in my family so now I do not use it but I do take a few other supplements and teas that hav helped a bit -one is passionflower and lemon balm also magnesium calm powder in warm water can help me relax a bit as well! Hope some of this can possibly help you or someone else-well it’s good to share here and get feedback & help one another going through similar issues!💞☺️🌻
