For the past 7 years or so, since I hit rock bottom, I've suffered from constant nightmares. Every night. Vivid, crazy dreams, often terrifying. They stay with me all day. If I wake up from a dream in the middle of the night and immediately go back to sleep I'll go back continuing the same dream. My dreams all take place in the same locations...sort of a distorted version of places I've lived/been to through my life. I'll revisit the same places in different dreams. I never have the same dream twice but there are several themes and situations that repeat. I also often wake up with sleep paralysis and/or screaming.
My psychiatrist says that it is not caused by any of my medications. He put me on this blood pressure med that is supposed to suppress dreams but it didn't work.
Anyone else dealing with this? I appreciate any input.

I had a vivid dream about a huge syringe with a needle put on my mouth it was so scary. I sometimes have vivid dreams and reoccurring nightmares but i don't know what triggers them
I'm afraid I can relate, mine are all due to an over-active imagination and PTSD.
As a result of my trauma, I suffer from panic disorder and on occasion, I'll dream about having a panic attack only to wake up into one.
When I have a rough night I'll often listen to white noise, just random videos on YouTube like the sounds of a campfire and crickets chirping.
Just shy of a year ago I had a psychiatrist start me on Remeron which really helped me calm down and get some better quality rest since then I've noticed a lot fewer nightmares but they still happen.
If this medication doesn't help keep bugging your psychiatrist, make sure they know just how awful and disruptive these nightmares are.
Oh, I also take melatonin too, it's inexpensive and widely used. I'd ask your psychiatrist if it would work well with your meds and consider trying it, it's amazing stuff
I'm sorry you're dealing with this too. Thanks so much for the tips/advice...I hadn't heard of Remeron, nor have I tried melatonin...I just take hydroxyzine before bed to help calm my thoughts...that and I watch dog videos on YouTube.
