HUMANS ARE NOT MEANT TO LIVE LIKE THIS

I keep getting emails from this site and trying to keep up. I get overwhelmed easily but haven't sent them to "junk" like I normally do. I think I like this place.

I'm writing this after waking up for about the third time (every two hours) feeling anxious. Better than the first time I posted but still, it sucks.

I look at the time and it's around 3:30am. I live about an hour and a half south of Melbourne, Australia, next to a freeway (with no noise barriers). I grew up here and it wasn't even considered part of Melbourne; it was a seaside town. Well now it's very much an outer suburb. Urban sprawl is bad in Australia because we don't do highrise like New York or London.

So traffic starts around 3:30am and ends around 9pm. The government hasn't touched this freeway in 20 years. I wear earplugs a LOT just to get some peace and quiet. I'm trying to move cities - easier said than done in this country.

I cry with feelings of helplessness and social isolation. I have C-PTSD and can't tolerate noise. Earplugs help with noise.. They also add to my sense of isolation.

Hi good advice from Gsp. If you click on your avatar then settings you can unsubscribe from getting emails.

Also whilst I am giving advice your post isn't locked to this community so it and all the replies can appear anywhere on the net. If you don't want this you need to lock your post to this community only.

All that continual noise is draining you. Moving to a quieter place sounds like a good solution. I suggest you respond to some of the emails from this site. I feel overwhelmed at times. I often respond to the posts that don't have any or few replies.

Thanks guys.

The emails don't bother me really. What I meant was that I always join things then get a tonne of email which I put in junk. But these I haven't been because I like the place :)

JohnPB Indeed it is. I can't stand it.

Hi FoxForce5 , I'm glad you like this place :-), me too.

I was feeling exactly the same as you earlier - and the 'trying to keep up' part. For some reason my email with 'daily digest' listed 70 posts today. I actually counted them as it seemed an awful lot. I started looking through and the weight of need seemed so great. I like to at least read the title of posts and the brief intro, and sometimes try to read a few in full on the site and then reply if I think I can, but that was far too many. I was so tired reading through, I'm aware I'm often missing posts I want to read. But I can feel a little better replying to one.

Some days the posts are brighter and cheerful and I recognise the avatars and usernames - other days it feels like a stream of pain which can be hard to bear when you want to connect and help others (and yourself too). It's a balance. Aim to get yourself stronger and then you can help others where you can.

The others have given some great advice - be as gentle as you can with yourself. I've used earplugs a lot in the past having become very noise sensitive after meningitis - and yes they help but do disconnect you. Use them as you need. It'd be lovely if there was a quiet park or part of the seashore you could spend time near - apparently being near water like this is called 'blue' bathing, like 'green' bathing in forests and green spaces. I'm imagining the fresh sea breeze as I type.

I'm not on here permanently and sometimes only check in when I feel able or well enough, so don't feel pressured to respond quickly or at all. Use this forum as you need and in a way that helps you.

Sending you peaceful thoughts. hope you start getting some more sleep and hope someone will plant some trees or put a bund in front of that freeway.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I live in Michigan, USA and I had no idea what your life must really be like. And by the way, us in Michigan here, we absolutely loved Hugh Jackman in Real Steel. I was a movie extra in that movie. It was so much fun!!!!! They filmed the title scene of the boxing robots at what used to be Cobo Hall in Detroit. Thank you and I hope you can breathe and feel a little less stressed out

I'm sorry you feel this way. I grew up in a city in Massachusetts, U.S., and get what you are saying. Never had a problem with noise til now... Slamming doors in my apartment building for one. I get how you feel. It's not easy. Just been diagnosed with insomnia so sleep has not been my friend, but working from home and not having to worry about making it to the office on time has been a lifesaver. I hope things get better for you. In all aspects. 🖤🙏
