Try something different/Daily reminder

I was never much of a gamer and everyone in my family plays world of Warcraft, my boyfriend does too. They all run dungeons together and all that, I’ve played it in the past but I have a hard time getting into it.

Even then I was really picky with games, I tend to pick the weird ones that not many people (that I know at least) play.

Since then I’ve been trying a bunch of games to see what I like and so far I love everything I’ve played. I don’t play 24/7 just whenever I feel like it, I still do other things like read and write and whatnot.

All this to say is try something you don’t think you’d like, chances are you could end up loving it.

Remember to drink some water and to get something to eat. Take your meds if you haven’t. Do that thing you’ve been putting off. Make an appointment with your doctor/therapist if you need to and remember to be gentle with yourself. You’re doing the best you can!

Take care 🤗🖤

Thank you so much for doing this. I'm struggling to do even simple things for myself like drinking water and eating. Your post helps me.

I never played this game, but it looks like a "hoot". (Oops. Sorry. That's an owl.)

Anytime at all, I’m glad I can help in some small way 😌

That honestly looks hilarious lol

Take care 🤗🖤

I completely suck at Untitled Goose Game but I also found it challenging and delightful at the beginning of lockdown. Low stakes, hard puzzles, ridiculous goose, charming, gentle music. 100% recommend for the anxious. Even my friend who hates games liked it.

I want to try it soon. It looks wonderful. Thanks for letting me know!

Yes! Trying new things exercises your brain and gives you a sense of accomplishment. I’m so glad you found a thing! A word on World of Warcraft (not trying to proselytize or change your mind): I was encouraged to start playing during a period of unemployment I had in 2006. At $14.99 a month it was a cheaper entertainment investment in dollars per minute. Even back then it was geared toward different tastes of game play; now it’s even better about appealing to different likes. I HATE player vs player and big raids. Dungeons with friends are fine, pick up groups are a mixed bag. I like all the other stuff you can do. The reason I say this is it’s a low bar for entry now and what I got out of it when I was unemployed and depressed was I could be assigned a task (a quest), figure out how to achieve it, and reap a reward. In a time when I had no control over my job situation, in a new and confounding relationship status, and a big wildfire year in my area too, it was a place I could control the pace, degree of engagement, and still be challenged and rewarded. Maybe for others that’s knitting or Skyrim or music lessons, but having a new hobby that made me feel a little bit like I could set a goal and achieve it helped me get out of bed to face the day.

I agree, it’s always good to try new things once and a while!

I did try playing again not long ago and some parts weren’t bad but I don’t know, I just had a hard time getting into it again (I used to play as often as my family does which is pretty much daily) but I can’t seem to do that now.

But I have other games that I enjoy and can spend hours upon hours of playing (for the days I don’t feel like doing much else 😛)

I’m glad to hear that it helped you in some way, it’s not always easy to find something to get you motivated but video games can certainly be one of many things that can help with it!

Hope you’re doing well, take care 🤗🖤

I am very glad you found your games too! Mind sharing them here? All the hugs.

I have a PS4 so I don’t know who’s going to be able to play what 😛

Days Gone, Fallout 4, Stardew Valley, Murder: Soul Suspect, Mortal Kombat X, Resident Evil (remake), Far Cry 4, Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Final Fantasy 7 (remake), Persona 5, Diablo 3... I could prattle on for a while 😅

🤗🖤

Play crash bandicoot

I do play crash, I’ve been playing since I was a wee lass aha brother prefers Spyro and I enjoy crash and another oldie called Medievil 🙃

Forza

I play games on occasion myself. It can be a break from all the crap that's going on in my head (anxiety/depression) . Just using your brain in a different way can be an escape to normalcy if just for a little while. I also agree and think that it's important to try to remember that we shouldn't be too hard on ourselves, as this is something I often forget. Try not to take anything too seriously.

I think it’s a good way to escape reality for a little bit, kind of like reading but definitely more visual.

I find it’s been helping my mental health a lot which I found strange since I didn’t play many games that much.

I agree, the worlds difficult enough so why make it more harder in ourselves?

Hope you’re doing well, take care 🤗🖤

Yeah it definitely helps me out. It diverts my attention enough to forget how bad i feel, witch gives me hope knowing I can feel the exact opposite using the right tools. Though it's tough sometimes figuring out the path to the brighter side of things. Hope your in good spirits.

Hey how have you been. I hope you are well. There's a really cool game you can get right now for free at the playstation store. It's called ABZU. Check it out, it's very relaxing.

Hey, I’ve been doing well thank you, how are you doing? I shall check it out! Always looking for new games to play.

Take care 🤗🖤

I've been doing better, thanks. As aforementioned, make sure to check out that game. It's perfect if you want to just sit back and relax.

I will for sure, thank you ☺️

After you try it out let me know what you think

For sure! 😌

YES. Self-compassion is everything. I'm sure if you saw the news, but the past 12+ months have been a bitch and a half. So we all can cut ourselves a break that we aren't/weren't up to our best selves. No one is/was. Me, I count it a win that I *only* gained ten pounds since the initial lockdown, considering everything I was and wasn't doing.

I was always a fan of the original Command & Conquer games, and for anyone that likes those games I recommend OpenRA which is a re-balanced and improved version created by fans and intended for online multiplayer battles. Free game for PC.

I have a PS4 but I can't really get into any games other than Apex Legends.

I’ve always heard nothing but good things about Command and Conquer but I’ve never gotten around to trying them.

Boyfriend loved Apex for a time but a lot of his friends get bored with games pretty fast.

I like playing single player games, I don’t like when people yell at me, especially when I’m learning how to play 😅

Hope you’re doing well, take care 🤗🖤

Yeah online gaming can get quite toxic at times. You can turn off that feature however, at least in Apex. It's not really needed with the ping system they have.

Thanks for your well-wishes. Hope you're doing OK yourself.

Sometimes I go to my friend have a chat with him I help him in fixing computers

That must be a fun and nice thing to do! It’s always good to socialize especially with everything going on.

I play online card games with friends that I haven’t seen in a year but it’s a good way to connect.

That’s a very good idea and I’m glad to hear you are getting out and having some fun too 😌

Take care 🤗🖤

You too take care

I am sure your boy friend cares about you

Oh he does! He said he was very proud of my efforts and progress today. I’m very grateful for him 😌

Do your girl friends talk to you

Yeah but none of them live here which really sucks, they all live in the city. I have thought about making friends here seeing as I’ve lived here for quite a few years now but everyone does drugs and I don’t want to be around it, plus a lot of girls don’t tend to really like me 😅

We FaceTime here and there (we’re doing this tonight) and I play that online card game with them and some friends I made in college so even though this distance between us I’m still super grateful to know these amazing people much like how I’ve gotten to know so many amazing people here 😌

Consider me a brother to you don't hesitate in anything I will help

I shall, thank you very much 😌🖤

Welcome sis
