Exercise suggestions

Before the pandemic I used to walk and take a yoga class. But with all the craziness this past year I haven't exercised. Now my fibromyalgia and arthritis are flaring from the winter cold. I ordered a new watch to count my steps and will try walking inside somewhere but am looking for suggestions on other ways to get moving while I hibernate from Covid and the cold.

Have you looked on Youtube for exercise classes?

I have a few Dvd's. Haven't looked on you tube much. Too overwhelming. But if I find something I can use my husband's iPad and put it on the tv.

I just thought of something else too. Do you have free weights at home?

No I don't.

Hmmm....Ok, this might seem a weird question, but do you have marbles and a jar?

No marbles either. I lost my marbles a long time ago.🤣

Hi I definitely recommend videos - I belong to a gym and they’re doing virtual workouts but there are a lot of free online programs. Worth checking out for overall physical and mental health. Wish you the best

Thanks. The hardest part for me is even doing yoga I have to modify somewhat due to my health.

My gym is doing the same thing. Thank goodness too! It has become a big part of my life here.

My husband projects his work onto the TV. My daytime shows now consist of Excel spreadsheet and a whole lot of numbers🙃

My husband projects everything and turns the volume way up. Sometimes I am relieved when he has to work. He sleeps during the day and I get some peace and quiet.😊

in reply to Mrspjsmom

That's nice. Peace and quiet is always a good thing.😊

Sometimes I just create a playlist on my phone of songs I like to dance to and go down in the basement where no one can see me and dance!!! When I was growing up I took dance lessons in jazz, tap, and ballet. I still love all of that even now. And I have a pair of 8 pound free weights that I use sometimes to try to tone my arms. I do have some arthritis in my left knee, using a heating pad really helps.

I took dance lessons growing up too. Eventually I just stayed with tap. My dance teacher was one of the original Rockettes. When I was old enough I had the honor of dancing with her in the recital. Actually doing kicks at the end of the routine.

in reply to Mrspjsmom

Awesome!!!! When I was about 15 we did this tap routine to the music from the play 42nd Street. At the end of it we all formed a line and did all the high kicks. Since I was one of the tallest girls in the class I was front and center. Maybe you can get a pair of tap shoes and one of these boards so you don't scuff your floor and do your thing!!! It's exercise and it's fun. Why should that just be for kids??? I bet you're really good. 🙂

I do the same thing!I have great speakers all over the house.

Fitnessblender.com has free workout videos. They have chair workouts for those with limitations and injuries.

Music is the best motivator. Use music to get you moving.

You can use many things around your house for free weights. Canned goods, fill up Mason jars with sand, flour, use what ever you have. Milk jugs, water bottles as well. A little imagination can have you using household items for fitness. 💜💜

Thank you

I agree with everyone else. Try the online courses. You will be pleasantly surprised at the variety on offer. Look into exercises that can done in the chair. For small weights you can substitute cans. Therapy with stretchy bands is gentle and builds strength. You can buy them online - I got mine at WISH.com. Good luck👍

Buy yourself a set of resistance bands, they aren't expensive then watch vids on YouTube and go for it.

What's to stop you continuing to exercise outdoors? If you wrap up warmly and observe social distancing you should be fine.

Some days walking outside is an option. As long as we don't have cold weather. Right now the temperatures are in the teens and the wind chill is in the single digits.

I like barre 3 for aerobics and adriene for yoga. FWFG is the paid version of the YouTube channel. Unfortunately I’ve been struggling the last two weeks while medical issues. But I set up a nice space for yoga in my bedroom where I can at least do some before bed routines.

It is tiny. Just enough to lay a mat. I can’t stretch out my arms unless I am sideways then I can’t stretch out my legs! But I have a candle and a blanket.
