It honestly just annoys me

Whenever I am down, my mom just says I am being a moody teen. I am also a cutter. My dad just tells me to "stop that bullshit" But they also say "I can always talk to them" 🙄

I can understand what you mean about your parents response or reactions. I’ve experienced that similar response as a teen. And it’s like so should I tell them how I feel or not? As I became an adult I decided to find a counselor and in my family it’s seen as a sign of “weakness” but I don’t think so, it’s brave to seek help and speak to a stranger who’s job is to listen to you and assess how to help you understand why you feel how you feel! I’m here for you and others on this website. I actually really enjoyed group therapy too more than individual because you are hearing experiences of. Others that can relate to what you may be feeling or have felt before! Keep your head up, I am sure your parents love you and maybe they are just scared but really you got this! It’s nice to talk about how we feel it makes it lighter inside, take it a little at a time, breathe and know that you are loved! I hope this helps check out nami.org I sent some of family members the materials and resources on there to educate us on mental illness and so they can understand what I’m going through

It wasn't a rhetorical question, I'm sure there is some psychological reason behind it. Would just like to know what it is first before I start spouting advice.

People do it for a lot of different reasons, some because they feel numb and want to feel an intense feeling. Some do it out of a sense of guilt and this is 'punishment', some for a sense of control. Some do it, as we might expect, as a cry for help, or as a distraction from emotional pain. Or maybe some combination of these.

I was just trying to get Nature_Walker to at least ponder the why rather than just doing it again without thinking, because one slip of the hand and it could be a fatal artery cut.

Hey there teen friend,

That parents for u. I know very well they mean well and from their hearts they do want to be there for u. It myt be the case of not knowing how to help and become defensive. The other thing is that not all of us relate to situations the same, they might not even understand ur needs completely. Do they blv in therapy? If they do, that is also another platform u can use. If they don't, then we are here to listen to u and offer options. There are lot of options here which commuters offer and u can get one that is good for u....
