I just wanted to find out if anyone has successfully tapered off Clonopin and Ambien successfully after 20 + years. Thank you for your help!

Hi J. I can't speak for myself as far as Klonopin but I can speak for myself when I stopped Ativan. My son said it was hell on earth so please do NOT go cold turkey. Nothing should ever be done cold turkey anyway due to the dangers of doing so. With me, I stopped the Fentanyl Patch, 8 Norco a day, and 2 Ativan a day all at the same time. BUT, I used a plant that saved my life and got me through the withdrawals. My son said it took him longer to get through the side effects of Klonopin than any other medication he was ever on. I'm not trying to scare you, I just want to share what information I have. Google it as far as stopping and side effects. And remember, we are ALL different so how one person is affected may not necessarily happen to someone else. I can't speak for Ambian because I have never used it but I'm sure someone will help you with that one, and I'm sure the Klonopin as well with their own experiences. But promise you won't just stop without taking it slowly?

Thank you! No, I definitely won't go cold Turkey. I am under a psychiatrist that specializes in this area. Thank you for your concern and for sharing your stories.

I got off Klonopin after 20 years while getting off pain pills so you can do it. That was 10 years ago.

Thank you for the inspiring message. Did you use the Ashton method? Do you feel much better now? Thank you for sharing your story!

Is there a specific reason after all those years you are stopping? Just curious as I have a cousin who has taken Klonopin for 30 years and has no intention of stopping...he is 70 and says it is now quality of life versus quantity. I wish you the best...having myself tapered off a few drugs, all I can say is that slow is the key word here.

I appreciate your message and for sharing your uncle's experience. I think I have developed tolerance withdrawal. It always seems like life gets in the way of focusing on how I feel. Probably need to stop worrying about my 10 years old son who might have adhd or a NVLD.
