Never taken Sertraline before, but I hate it quit working for you. Maybe talk to your dr. about trying something else.
That exactly what happens with sertraline, but don't quit on it, it takes 7-8 weeks to reach it's full impact, and when it does you will jump for joy.You have to fight through the side effects and you'll come out on the side felling great...
If you don't mind my asking, what is your dosage? I'm on Sertraline and I'm taking 150 mg. My prescriber had said I could go up to 300 mg to help with my OCD, but when I was at 200 mg I was really dizzy so I'm just staying at the 150 for now. I've noticed my depression and social anxiety have improved the most, but my OCD hasn't been affected much. I would say to definitely talk to your doctor and see if maybe you need an increase in your dose or if there are other meds that could work for you. I've been taking Sertraline for a few months now too and I haven't noticed it decreasing in effectiveness and no new side effects. This is the main thing I hate about taking meds, trying to figure the right one and right dose.
I'd echo the comments of give it time. Unless the side effects are worse than your initial symptoms. One medication gave me major migraines so I switched. It might be a dosage concern or the wrong SSRI for you. I tried a few before finding that sertraline worked the best with my body. The good news about taking an SSRI is that it's pretty simple to switch meds without major negative side effects. I noticed when I changed dosage (either up or down) that my anxiety came back as if I'd never been on the meds. My doctor suggested it was withdrawal and I'd decreased too quickly. It took a few weeks but things evened out. You can get through this. Just continue checking in with your doctor.
It can take some time to find the right dose. Your doctor should be able to adjust it gradually, a few months between the steps.
