Medication question

I was put on a medication a few days ago and I am currently having side effects that are making my anxiety worse. The medication I was put on is not letting me sleep which is causing issues. At what point do I come off the medication?

What meds are you taking? A lot of the AD's I've taken over the years made my anxiety worse. They say it gets worse before it gets better, but it didn't get better for me or maybe I didn't give them long enough, although I usually gave them 4 or 5 weeks. Hope you feel better soon.

Same here. I've been on st John's wort or 5htp, ears ringing is only side effect. What do you take?

I take Lithium because my psy. nurse thinks I may be Bipolar but it doesn't seem to be helping me much so I don't know what to do

Yea, got to give them awhile to see. I've tried everything, we need some new meds that don't cause anxiety.

Definitely talk to your doctor, but also know that it does take time for your body to adjust so your doctor might say to just give it a bit more time. I'm taking an antidepressant and I was also having a hard time sleeping. I switched from taking it in the morning to taking it in the evening and it actually helped, so you can try taking your meds at a different time of the day. Also, some meds at lower doses do cause more anxiety but, oddly enough, they stop increasing your anxiety at higher doses (but again I'm not a doctor so always talk to them).

If the medication is Zoloft or Lexapro, one the side effects is that it raises the level of anxiety before it actually works. It took 7 weeks for my Zoloft to kick in, but you need to bite the bullet and stick with it and trust me, once it kicks in, you will be amazed. My depression and anxiety have completely subsided and I am back to my old self..Stay the course.....

I was on lexapro for 2 days recently. I have never felt such a level of anxiety before in my life. I was hiding in my room, scared of everything, and cried a lot! I was nauseated and hardly ate for 4 days. I also had flu-like symptoms, which during this time is not a great thing to experience since it can be mistaken for covid. My doctor said to try a lower dose, but I am so scared to try it again. She told me it takes a few weeks for the anxiety to improve, but there is NO way I could make it that long feeling the way I did. Unfortunately everyone has different responses to medications, so you never know until you try it.

If I have side effects from a medication, I tell my doctor and stop it. I am sensitive to meds, especially anti-depressants so more times than not, I'm not on them long. Most cause my anxiety to become worse. It's not uncommon.
