My medication was just changed to trintellix and I'm afraid to take it because it says it could cause serotonin syndrome. I feel terrible

I'm not sure what med you were on before but if your doctor prescribed it then he/she has weighed the benefits against the side effects. While seratonin syndrome can be a serious side effect it usually doesn't occur. Physicians usually start new meds and taper up as needed for effect so patient is on lowest dose needed. The only concerns with seratonin syndrome come if you decide to take herbal supplements or other meds of which your doctor and pharmacist are unaware. I've been on SSRI meds for years and have never had a problem. Don't be afraid, take your meds as prescribed and report and symptoms to your doctor. If you just started something new they likely want to follow up with you in a few weeks to check on it's effectiveness. A lot of side effects go away after your body adjusts it it does take a few weeks for that to happen.

Think about how great you could feel if this med works for you!

Try taking a relaxing bath with Epsom salts and lavender. Or anything you might have, soak for awhile and try some deep breathing techniques. Allow your body to relax and surrender to the calmness. Instead of accepting that you "can't stop" the feeling, replace it with something else. Take control over your anxiety and don't let it control you. Just the process of drawing up a bath and soaking and deep breathing is usually enough to put you in a calmer state of mind. Playing some soft music may also help. These are things I do when I have trouble calming down.

Sweetie, everything is gonna be alright. Please take your new med. seratonin syndrome is usually something that happens when people are taking the max dose or more of an SSRI. I did experience the jerking of muscles at times when I was on a very high dose of Effexor...but the benefits totally outweighed that. I know how you feel though ....we're scared of our affliction and we're scared of the meds we need.

I am so scared all I do is cry. I have terrible pressure in my head.

I know the feeling of being told to take meds then afraid to take them and seratonin syndrome is one of the reasons why. I am very sensitive to medications and cannot tolerate most plus the fear factor. I totally understand. It's very difficult. How long have you felt like this and have you ever taken any meds for it?

Hello. I feel for you so sending big hugs 🤗 ❤️

It would help I'm sure if you started your medication.

I've felt incredible head pressure, in my neck too. Not nice. But it was def linked to anxiety. Once I started my meds it disappeared.

Much love ❤️

Hello - I'm in he U.K. and this med is called Brintellix (vortioxetine) over here.

It's expensive and usually won't be prescribed until 2 antidepressants have been tried e.g. An SSRI and an SNRI or 2 SSRIs.

How do you find it?

Much ❤️

Side effects include worsening anxiety, it gets worse before it gets better. Stay strong and be patient
