I am getting older and I still don't know what I want to do with my life. The pressure from my family has been overbearing. My boyfriend is also telling me that I need to do something. I need to think about a career. What I want to do with my life, every time that I see him. And I wish I knew. I really wish I knew. I think about it everyday, I research different fields, I've tried different fields and the more I don't know, the more I feel like my life is meaningless. Being surrounded by people who are doing what they love or are working towards it, makes me feel useless and maybe there's something wrong with me. I end up being envious and it makes me feel worse. So, How do you know?

Life feels meaningless
That's like what I'm going through right now. No work experience and feeling desperate to get some. I'm sorry you are under so much pressure! It's no fun being surrounded by achievers. The best advice I have been given is "just pick something and do it" and also "learn by doing." There is nothing wrong with giving one or two different sorts of work a try before settling on a career. What sort of field interests you?
Maybe something that has to do with traveling. I did pick something and just do it. I actually quite enjoy it. But everyone's been telling me I need a career. I can't do this for the rest of my life. I guess that pressure was always still there, even when I did enjoy what I was doing. And with the pandemic, I lost the job anyway. I am sorry you are going through this funk too.
I am so sorry to hear you lost your job... especially one that you enjoyed. That's really rough. Thanks, maybe I will start doing volunteer work soon to fill my time and get some experience. If I could find something I really enjoyed, I would want to stick with it even if it didn't open up a great career. As long as it "payed the bills."
Life may feel empty without a purpose but it can also be an exciting opportunity to discover that for yourself. People putting pressure on you does not help.
I would like to share this little video with you. It will not provide you with instructions on how to find your purpose in life, but the message is great. I hope it will reassure and inspire you.
Find something you enjoy and work with that. Any career is possible if you want it enough. Don't let anyone tell you you can't do something you want to. Millionaires sometimes come by starting at the bottom. They don't always come from universities.
Many people don't know what they want to do with their lives - I still don't and I am in my 60's! You seem to be assuming that everyone has a firm idea and lands up in a job they love etc. This isn't true, Lots of people aren't sure and just end up at a job they don't hate but not necessarily love either. Try making a list of what you don't want as this is easier. For example are you a people person, do you need autonomy, is money the most important factor and so on. If you can narrow down your don't wants then your wants become easier.
