I was on Citalopram for about six months, but didn't cope with it well. I am somewhat of an athlete and train in weightlifting and sports that require maximum muscle strength and explosiveness over short bursts of time...
Citalopram apparently inhibits testosterone production and also functions as a muscle relaxant, both obviously not very good for my sport....On top of that I was sweating bullets, constantly getting dizzy and feeling faint and had a terrible loss of appetite. My sport is my only outlet, I can't afford losing it to take medication because the effect of not being able to train/loss of body and muscle control is just as devastating for me as the depression itself.
But I'm not doing too hot right now. I really could use the support from meds to get through the winter, esp with the added pressure of COVID, job uncertainty, etc...
Does anybody have experience with other medications, maybe also with doing a sport to a competitive level on them? I read some research reports that also mentioned fluoxetine, bupropion and sertraline, but have no idea if they could be better than citalopram
Any advice would be hugely appreciated!!
