So, what do you say when a paralyzed person says "I can't walk, it's not possible?"
You don't understand that just because you can, other's may not be able to. Example, Depression is a chemical imbalance. It is the same to the brain as being paralyzed is to the body. It is a chemical imbalance that causes some people to be literally incapable of 'getting better' without medication or PROFESSIONAL help. Just because you overcame your suffering, doesn't mean everyone can.
"I can't get over my depression", is a legitimate statement and I feel like you're invalidating a lot of people's feelings by making posts saying, in laments terms, to "get over it". It is not that easy.
I just put solutions on here, that can ease suffering, make someones life better if I can, from my trials in life, dont cut my finger off ! just look to were its pointing. Namasta. in life spent 20% of the time on the problem and 80% on the solution. you cant solve a problem with the same thinking that created it, this is the way I look at things, now if my posts help 1 person, job done.
Paralyzed person trying to walk, maybe not, you might be right on that one 😂 but in the case of depression, if you don’t believe you can get better, why would would you try to get professional help? There wouldn’t be any motivation. Believing is the first big step because doors begin to open up. Even if you can’t do it on your own, believing and trying every day makes it get better, and getting professional help with that attitude is likely to produce amazing results! Great post Gerrerd
I guess I understand from that perspective. I was more so bringing up the post about him saying that you can 'train your brain' to not suffer from trauma you've had in the past. It will never be that easy for people with serious mental health problems and I just feel like saying things like that make those who aren't 'better' feel worse about themselves.
It’s good that you’re concerned for others, I’m glad you care (:
It’s up to the individual how they take things, and I agree that it wouldn’t be super easy. I wouldn’t expect to be able to train my brain and not suffer from something really traumatic over night, but I really do think that with sincere effort, over time it would get better. Just like how trees grow very slowly, but in the end, they become magnificent, strong, and tall
(Man, I keep using trees in my analogies 😂)
I think gerrerd made it clear that he’s still working on it every day, and it’s been 40 years. So I think he understands that it doesn’t happen easily or quickly. I hope the readers understand that too and see it as an encouraging invitation to believe in themselves (: it’s important to plant that seed and begin to nourish it so that it can grow into a beautiful, strong recovery
Thank you for perspective Kat_21, I’m glad you’re here it’s always good to find common ground and attain a mutual understanding. When we work together we can come up with the best advice!
Thank you put better than me, but your spot on again, the lady misunderstood what I was say. I deal in thought to ease mental suffering ! using my mind to control how I react to problems before they lead to depression. Your thoughts do change body chemicals also, but the lady did not understand my point.
Yah that’s true, depression is not easy to fight. No it will never just “go away” but it does get more manageable. It’s not a choice to have depression, but our reaction to depression is. A very difficult one at that. My depression went mostly untreated for 8 years. I developed bipolar and symptoms of mild psychosis. Once i found the right treatment it really did get easier. I still have suicidal thoughts and depressive episodes, but my episodes are shorter.
Congratulations! This is difficult for some people to grasp especially if they’ve had a certain mindset for so long...it definitely has been for me but I believe it can work
