Do any of you women on here get severe anxiety while on your period? It always seems to happen to me. Is there anything I can do to ease it?

I get severely depressed (and sometimes suicidal) during that time. I just have to let it pass. It's good that I know it's a pattern of mine that will pass.

Aww, I'm sorry you get those feelings as well. Awful, isn't it? At least we know it's a pattern. For me, that makes it easier to cope with. It's still not pleasant to go through, though.

I see that you're new here. Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome :) My depression is very bad but I am grateful that it ebbs and flows.

Yes, I do. Reminding myself that it will pass is helpful. It really does feel almost unbearable at times. Keeping up with a good mental health routine. For me that includes therapy, yoga, mediation, exercise, eating well, and getting more sleep a couple days leading into my period and for 2-3 after it’s ended. I never had this happen until this year. Not sure if it’s just the extra stress of life during a pandemic or if my hormones suddenly decided to mix things up once a month.

what day does the anxiety end up fading away?

Pickles19 profile image

It varies. Usually I start returning to “normal”between the last day of my period, up to three days after.

This also happens to my best friend. It started for her in her mid 20’s, we are 33 now. For her, it has gotten worse over the years, but she knows it’s coming and if she stays ahead of it she can manage it better. ❤️

I just realize this also happens. I never put the thought the two were related. I found here recently drinking tea helps put me in a better mood. Also taking the gummies with melatonin it to help me sleep at night. It helps some. Hope this helps.

Yes, my doctor advised that before your period and the first 2 days most women experience intense mood swings and anxiety during that time.

Yes! My depression gets noticeably worse a couple days before my period and during. This hasn’t always been so.. started in recent years. I am 31.

Yes yes yes!! Mood fluctuates a lot during that time but keep an eye out for other symptoms.

My period gave me severe anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. I also couldn’t eat and had other symptoms I thought were normal. When I causally told my doctor she was like “UHHH who told you that was normal” lmfao. It turned out I have PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). She put me on the lowest birth control dose possible and all of those issues went away

I’m pretty sure I also have PMDD and I told my doctor but she didn’t seem too concerned

Laurennnnnnn profile image
Laurennnnnnn in reply toSierramist

Try a different doctor or go to a gynecologist. My doctor was sure but she had me take a survey just to be sure. If you had something like three of the ten symptoms you have PMDD and I had all of the symptoms 😂😂

But I really really recommend pursuing it if you think you have it. I didn’t realize how dangerous and detrimental it was at the time and I’m genuinely lucky I didn’t really hurt myself

So many people, sadly that includes doctors, dismiss girls’ period symptoms as pms. But if you think something is wrong, go with your gut

i have also had a hard time eating i dont have an appetite and its worrying me

Laurennnnnnn profile image
Laurennnnnnn in reply toSierramist

Make sure you tell your doctor that because I feel like that was the most concerning thing to her lol.

I never would have cravings or anything, I’d just have no appetite and the thought of eating made me nauseous. So I’d actually lose. A lot of weight each period

the same thing is happeneing to me. im trying to eat atleast 500 calories a day until its over

Laurennnnnnn profile image
Laurennnnnnn in reply toSierramist

That’s good to set a goal like that! It also helps to have calorie heavy things that are quick to get down like smoothies or protein shakes (if you can find one that’s not nasty lol) but calorie heavy. Or just a lot of peanut butter lol that’s what I’d eat

Sierramist profile image
Sierramist in reply toLaurennnnnnn

i drink a type of protein drink called boost and it has 240 calories

Just curious- have you tried midol or anything like that? I know it isn’t for pmdd but I used to try it because I figured if it helped period symptoms it might help me a little bit. But it always made me 900 times worse

Sierramist in reply toLaurennnnnnn

NOT BEING FUNNY...but menopause really helps...IF you have a no symptom menopause like me. Remember, I'm the oldster 70.

Talk to your doctor. There are things to help.

My gynecologist gave me an RX...but with oldster 70 you tend to forget. It helped and wasn't any of the benzies.

I took a lot of primrose oil. Helped a lot.

Let me know how you're doing.
