feeling depressed by b blockers
Noticed your post I really don’t hav any knowledge on this topic but I’m sure there may be someone on here who can help in this area -wish best to you and hope things improve soon for you🌻🙏🏼
I have also noticed that bisoprolol negatively affected my mood and I am considering lowering the dose or switching entirely (there are other unpleasant side effects as well). One question - do you think it's depression or heightened anxiety leading to depression? If anxiety is the issue, it may be worth asking your doctor about propranolol, which I've found helps anxiety in addition to high pulse and palpitations. I will probably ask to be put back on that.
good evening at first it started with anxiety and phobias and panic attacks and after six months depression came at first like pessimism as if there is no tomorrow and distant emotions in the mind I generally felt sick like all this causing me and insomnia bisoprolol now six months on nebivol I sleep much better but I have more headaches and migraines that I have had for a long time. As for propranolol I asked the doctor and he said that it does not suit me due to age and that I would need more doses during the day unlike nebivolol I am once a day and I just do not know if these pills in addition to the heart also affect the brain Everything, the palpitations and the feeling of the pulse are well controlled, I just have this discomfort in the head and sometimes in the intestine and stomach, all the blood tests I did so far did not show anything, even a magnetic vascular brain, I did everything clearly to say I do not know, I am very confused let's hope for a better tomorrow
Did you consult a psychiatrist? Most beta blockers can cross the blood-brain barrier and depression can be a side effect. My cardiologist dismissed that complaint, but psychiatrists all agreed (I consulted four) and it's a known side effect. They are also well familiar with propranolol's potential for treating anxiety on top of everything else (well documented), which my cardiologist also dismissed. May be worth checking with one on your side effects and what you can do to get some relief. Why did they put you on beta blockers in the first place?
no I did not go to a psychiatrist yet but as you said with two cardiologists I spoke to they told me that b blockers can cause low mood but no depression they put me in them for palpitations and tachycardia over 110 pulses I started with 2.5 bisoprolol in the beginning did work then I felt sick I took it for a year now I am six months in nebivolol I am a little better but I do not know if all this is related to my heart attack my brother three years ago since then I have a lot of health anxiety and somehow I started them b blockers I can not say that everything is related to pills I do not know what I am looking to find but somewhere I read that b blockers not for people who are sensitive to depression and something else when I was on bisoprolol I felt so tired the day I did not want to do nothing just lying on the couch and a lot of vivid dreams and something i had to think about to breathe and somehow i was wondering the mistake i have with my body before pills I did not have these problems I hope to find the edge at some point thank you all for your interest
Health anxiety is the worst, but we will all get through this - we just need to find the right medication. I have all the same problems you listed with bisoprolol (and more) and it definitely affected my mood. It also worsened my palpitations and now I can feel my pulse in my throat and neck, which is a horrible feeling for someone with anxiety. I am thinking of either switching to propranolol (which helped before) or nebivolol, but I will also rely on a psychiatrist to fix the anxiety part. Beta blockers can only do so much if the underlying problem is anxiety.
