When your GP asks if your meds for A&D are working what do you answer? Yes, no, maybe, I don’t know, perhaps a little, most of the time etc. The feelings I have never go away. If I manage to avoid areas of trouble I am ok but if I get stressed by something like an argument or even a news item then the feelings come to the surface. So I really do not know if the meds work or not. Maybe it’s just a stupid question?

I think it would be better if they asked you a set of questions which would lead them to reach an informed conclusion......but what do I know!

I answer as honest as I can. My last answer was I’m not as grouchy, and I’m sleeping better, but still get anxious.

It’s hard isn’t it, especially at the moment!

Every time my psychiatrist appt is coming up I start thinking the same thing. Some days i feel good, other days I have a panic attack. I’m not entirely sure what constitutes “working” but this is what I do . I keep track of my anxiety levels in a book and if I can honestly say that MOST days my anxiety is manageable then thats exactly what I tell my doctor. Do I wish the meds took the anxiety completely away, hell yes! but hey we do our best!

I felt this post in my soul.

“Some days are better than others.”

I hate when I'm asked that question because of the reasons you give here. For me, the ease at which I can answer that question has depended on the medication. I've been on so many medications over the years (sad thing is I'm only 39), with some making it easier to answer that question with than others. Life itself also makes that question so hard to answer. I think what doctors are looking for is how the medication affects you in general. I think they are going after how much of a deviation said medication has shifted your baseline demeanor. Does that make sense?

Hi thanks for your reply. I guess what you say does make sense but I would prefer them to ask a set of questions which perhaps they could score and then draw their own conclusions. After all there could be something better out there but I’m really scared to come off what I’m on and start the whole process from scratch. I’ve had meds previously which have had some pretty horrible side effects.
