Does it get better?

Hi I'm new here, I was prescribed sertraline 50mg for anxiety and started it exactly 5 weeks ago today. The first few weeks were fine, in fact I felt better than I had, then came the terrible non-stop headaches and vision problems, that lessened off last week but now I just feel sick all the time and utterly exhausted as I can't sleep at night due to insomnia, chronic heartburn and anxiety which is worse at night. I'm just feeling low at the moment and would appreciate any words of encouragement...does it get better?

Hi. Im new here as well.. I been taking sertraline for more than 3 years. I started at 25 mg. seemed like never changed for a while. I did experienced all those symptoms you mentioned in a very extreme way. I had gradually increased my dose by my doctor every 3 months, until I reached 100 mg. once i was in a more normal state for a while, I slowly reduce my dose, and now I do take 25 daily. I found that taking at night was better for me. Yes sertraline helps and you will feel better. just need to very patience since it take a while to kick in your body, and to find the right dose for you. Don't give up. At some point you will start to feel better and rest even better. resting is a key. hope it helps.

Hi Kolibri, thank you for your reply. I'm going to wait until I have been taking the medicine for 8 weeks then will see if I need my GP to increase the dosage. It's good to know that the side affects do get better, that's put my mind at ease a bit.

Glad to help. Also I don’t know what age you are or what triggers your anxiety but I tried hormonal treatment before sertraline and didn’t help me. But by my doctor is great in some people. My issue is genetics so sertraline have me very stable. One more thing don’t try to stop it suddenly I’m sure your doctor already mentioned to you. Best wishes! I would love to hear after you start to feel better too !
