Therapy helpful or harmful?

I'm concerned that going to therapy will do more harm than good. I'm not excited about talking about or reliving or reviving old and painful events and memories. What do you think?

For me it's about getting to the core of the problem. The only way I am healing is through revisiting the past.

Best of luck to you

You can’t cross over by taking a detour, you have to go through it to get to the other side. When you get to the other side then you’ll be stronger, you’ll be equipped with and adopt tools and strategies to better handle the influx of anxiety, unsettling feelings you get when you meet up with intrusive thoughts and overwhelming emotions that come to the surface.

You’ll get out of therapy what you put in it. You’ll need to trust the process. Your mental health wasn’t born in a day, so give your therapy patience and time.

Only you can answer this question. All we can do is tell you our experiences.

For me, I get a lot out of therapy.

Therapy by definition is about healing. I am working on this aspect especially at the moment. If you have concerns at all, mention this in your sessions. Also, if you have a couple of goals of your own, this might be easier to work through these rather than letting the therapist set the agenda all the time.

Therapy relies on the team work and relationship between both of you. If it doesn't work out, you have permission to leave and try with someone else. It's really the old saying, "suck it and see if ok for me".
