I have been taking Diazapam for anxiety & sleep for over a decade.
I do not abuse this medication.
However, my Psychiatrist said the (U.S.) Government is stopping it.
Therefore, he is weaning me each month to 0mg.
He prescribed Hydroxyzine.
First, I had never heard of it.
Second, I wondered WHY.
My Doctor is not offering a different Benzo.
What can I expect taking this med?
All input will be appreciated.
I am currently prescribed that medication. I am to take it once or twice daily in the event of anxiety or a panic attack. I can't really tell if it works very well. It does seem to calm me a little, but without making me feel loopy or dizzy. During a full-blown panic episode, though, it doesn't have much of an effect at all. I hope this helps. I have been prescribed Hydroxyzine too for anxiety, mostly to help with sleep. I still have some but don't like to take it cause it made me groggy if I didn't get enough sleep. I don't think it's supposed to for most people but it did for me. They did help me calm down and fall asleep sometimes though.

I think I’m going to try it for sleep.
I take Melatonin now and it makes me groggy too.
It can’t hurt to try it. 😊
Its never done much for me, about the same as Benadryl. Taking this wont even come close to Benzos, especially if you were on them very long.

This is exactly what I was afraid of.
My Doctor was just going to cut off Diazapam.
I am the one who had to say “Hold up! What about withdrawals?”

I was prescribed this medicine for anxiety and allergic itching. The dosage was 1 tablet every 8 hours or as needed.
The very first time I took it my experience was not too good, as it gave me a migraine. I stopped taking it after a few days, and didn't touch it for for couple of months.
But i did start taking it again recently as I my anxiety levels were really high. It does not give me migraines anymore, but I must say that it does not really help reduce my anxiety. I took a double dose of it one night so that it would be stronger and help me sleep.

Lol yeah. A lame med for anxiety sufferers. Nice way to put it. I had never taken an anxiety med before. So this might be a beginner med.
Mine prescribed trazodone. At least for the short term. But I also started an antidepressant. Maybe something like a "regular" med like that would help? It takes a couple weeks for them to kick in.

I take 20mg Generic Lexapro & 300mg Generic Wellbutrin.
I take the Diazapam as needed which is not everyday.
It sounds like Hydroxyzine just makes people sleepier and therefore calmer.
I have been on it for two months and it makes me sleepy at first and then I am ok.

I take that for sleep.
No . I take Trazodone for that. As needed.
Do you mind if I ask you, do you take any other SSRI?
I just wonder why my Doctor didn’t prescribe Trazadone.
Yes I take Sertraline
It works. To calm anxiety tho i need like 150-200 mg tho. But still my Xanax calms me more. But all I can say is I would be worse off without the hydroxyzine. So. 🤷♀️
I hated it! It made me so tired. That was upsetting because my dr knows I'm always fighting being tired from depression and anxiety already! We are all suffering since the opioid crisis began and it's getting worse. Meds that help people are being taken away everyday. It's so scary

I have muscle relaxers for back pain and Fibromyalgia, but I don’t take them because I’m already tired.

Hello, I have been prescribe hydroxyzine 2 take as needed. It relaxes me & helps me sleep so I take it only when I am having a really rough time with depression and anxiety.
