No empathy so I left

My husband, who is not always kind, just disrespected me in front of my mother. I burned my hand making dinner and he was yelling at me to remove the ice pack, take Advil... he was screaming!!! She told him he has no empathy and got up and left. Then I left too. I need to go back to the house to be with our daughter. Advice please

Is it just lack of empathy from him at all. My husband likes to escape into his man cave and I feel lonely. I learned you can't change people.
