The big driver for my anxiety is stress. And it’s almost impossible to escape or navigate around.

I’m a shift supervisor in a large industrial plant. Dealing with people all the time, big responsibilities, shift work, now covid rules on top of everything. I wish I could retire or just quit, but can’t afford it. I’m only 58.

Anyone else? I have had chronic stress in my life for many years, and occasionally it gets to an acute level. It drove me to a breakdown about 13 years ago; that’s when I became exposed to benzodiazepines. I’ve been off them for 12 years, but I think it’s left my nervous system ultra sensitive. The withdrawal was horrendous and protracted. I’ve never been the same since.

Anyway if there was a way to minimize stress or somehow better manage it, I’m sure the anxiety would be a lot less. I meditate, play guitar, spend time in nature, but can never seem to be able to really relax; I’m always in a state of tension.

Life has certainly been complicated by C-19 virus. If your company offers an employee assistance program (EAP), you could book a couple of free appointments to check up on your mental health. Talking things over with a trained professional is sometimes better than doing things on your own. I have just developed a stay at work plan with my manager to manage stress points in my job. Initially it was hard to utter the words, " I am not okay. I need help." After this I have been feeling supported and more positive at work.
