Thanks so much Brian! I just “got through” having a massive anxiety attack. Long story short; my hairdresser asked if I’d pet sit her cats while she went to a funeral. I’m known to be a HUGE animal lover. I said yes. We agreed I’d stay Friday through Monday, she’s expected back first thing Tuesday. When I got here Friday, I find her out of her mind on coke and selling other drugs to random people. She ended up not leaving until late on Saturday as she just kept doing coke and drinking. I hadn’t heard from her since she left so I texted her and said I’m leaving tonight since she’ll be back in the am. I have NO desire to see her again, she TERRIFIED me. She finally texts me back and said she now isn’t coming back until Wednesday night. Thus my anxiety attack. ALL I want is to leave. Her cats have tons of food and water and they’re just fine, I just can’t believe I’m contemplating leaving two cats all alone until Wednesday, I feel so badly about that. But I’ve barely slept since I got here (anxiety) and I just really want to leave. Advice?!?

Thanks for sharing! The obvious advice would be to take the cats back to your place and wait there until your hairdresser returns. At least that way, you're in a comforting environment and if you're terrified, there are always friends of yours you can call. Another option (this may sound a little heartless) would be to take the cats to a nearby shelter, let them know what's going on and leave your hairdresser a note telling her where the cats are when she wants to pick them up. But once the cats are out of your care and back with the hairdresser, I'd cut ties with her (is it a her?) pronto! One way to make anxiety worse is by having people in your life that cause stress or chaos. Bring in more of the good people, deal less with the bad people lol. I sympathize with what you're going through. Right now, it sounds like you need to be in your comfort zone. If you feel comfortable to bring the cats over, then go for it. Hopefully they won't climb all over the drapes lol. Above all, deep breaths and relax. You'll get through this! I got faith in ya :)

Your pal,

Brian

Thank you Brian!! So much! I actually currently live at a canine rescue that on average has 20 dogs in the house so taking the cats there will not work! Lol! Can you imagine?! Oh brother!! Talk about chaos!!

I 💯 agree that my now former hairdresser will no longer be a part of my life. The anxiety I have felt since this past Friday has been unbearably overwhelming and a huge setback for me. I just had NO idea!!

What I’ve decided is to leave tomorrow. The cats will be alone less than 24 hours then and seriously since I’ve been here they haven’t needed anything. They are very frightened and unfriendly little guys, which now makes sense considering their mom is seriously out of control. I’m still in shock this happened, again, I just had no clue!

Your advice is so sound and I greatly appreciate it Brian. If I felt any stronger or less terrified of her I think I might have taken them to a shelter. Truthfully though, they have the best of every material thing; food, water fountains, cashmere beds the whole nine! I know they’ll be ok so I’ll go tomorrow.

Now I really need to get myself back on track. Badly. Thanks for having faith in me!!

Glad to hear that! Yeah, cats and dogs together usually don't make a good combination lol. Ultimately, you have to do what's best for you in this case. Just know you are never alone in this struggle. Everyone here has your back 😀. I'll always have faith in ya 😀 If you ever need someone to talk to, you can bend my ear anytime.

Your pal,

Brian 😀

You’re right about cats and dogs ....I’m reminded of that every day when the dog evicts the cats off the property 🐈🐈🐕

When you call a dog, they come running.

When you call a cat, you get an answering maching.

Truer words have never been spoken lol

That’s too funny and so true!! So Brian, you can’t sleep either or are we in different time zones?

I suffer from sleep apnea, which makes sleeping challenging. I'm on East Coast time (I live in New Hampshire), which means the sun is already up lol

Sorry about the sleep apnea, I bet it makes sleep challenging! The machine alone, in theory to help, is a huge obstacle to overcome in order to sleep wouldn’t you say? I’m in Colorado so I still have 2 more hours before the sun is up but my sleeping partner doesn’t give me much room (we’re both big girls) plus my anxiety and depression have been so very bad over the last month that I’ve got that wake up in the middle of the night for no reason thing going on. I wish I could attach a picture of my sleeping buddy, she’s too cute!! 125 pound 2 year old Newfoundland - she’s an angel 😇

Brian, I tried attaching a picture - I think it showed up as a new post?? I’m clueless! Sorry!!

Hey, packerGirl. Sorry to butt in, but I wanted to answer your confusion. Unfortunately, one cannot post pictures to an ongoing thread. Not quite sure why because it would be nice.

Ahhhhh, I see, so it’s not just me! I was questioning what I was doing wrong, thanks for the feedback!! 😊

in reply toPackerGirl

No prob!😀

in reply tobridder01

I have sleep apnea as well. It's hell!

Again, sorry to butt in. Do you mind if I join you guys?

I'm in Europe.

in reply toPackerGirl

Hi PackerGirl. Sorry for your ordeal. I would just leave the cats with plenty of food and water and go home. Cats aren’t like dogs. They are pretty self sufficient as long as they have food and water and a clean litter box. In my opinion you would be doing nothing wrong. Your hairdresser is taking advantage of your kindness.
