It’s a horrible experience because you tell yourself why would these thoughts enter my mind in the first place or it must be true because why am I thinking this and then when you do come round from it you feel ashamed for thinking it tell yourself you aren’t normal for thinking those types of things! I would suggest speaking to someone professional if you haven’t already or try some breathing techniques!

And you lose so much time on them as well.

Yeah, it sucks. I’m trying out Steven Hayes’s ACT methods for defusion... (his talk to the school on YouTube, not the Ted Talk). It’s tough gng but sometimes his defusion methods help.

What do you do to deal with them?

But if you keep doing that it could develop into depression, right?

I feel so calm after sleep but if I’m only doing that, I’m not doing anything to make things better in the long run and it tends to get me down after awhile.

Do you think you’d be open to a yoga buddy / meditation / “insert calming activity here” buddy?

How about yoga for 30 mins at least once a week / “insert Yhoni’s calming activity”? We could be each other’s method of accountability...

Hi all, to remove these uninvited thoughts, learn to accept them and let them have their say, instead of adding more fear by questioning them (what if). In an anxious state, you cannot stop them coming but you do have control over how you react to them. The only thing that keeps them coming is the way you react to the thought or fear flash.

Instead of responding with a “what if” attitude, change it to “so what!?” and let the thought go. When you have this attitude towards the thought, you are no longer adding more fear which keeps feeding your anxiety and creating the very same thoughts you are trying to get rid of.

I won’t get too technical but think of those thoughts as anxious energy that needs to be released in full and all part of the recovery process. If you let all that energy go and don’t add more fear ( which tops up that energy) the symptoms will slowly disappear.

We are doing this to ourselves. Anxiety dies when you stop feeding it.
