Hi MisInTx. Welcome to the Support Forum
Dealing with Anxiety is all about finding what works best for us
in reducing our stress. Personally, I use Meditation first thing
in the morning, midafternoon and before bed. I do that along with
diaphragmatic breathing. This must be done on a daily basis and not
just when you are in anxiety mode.
No matter what life throws at you, you will be able to handle it.
Believe in yourself. Stay safe, stay well xx
Thank you. Yes, I definitely don't want this to rule more of life !
I have dealt with anxiety at some level for almost my whole life but finally took a concerted effort to get things under control about 15 years ago when it started affecting my life to a greater extent. I have found that thought redirection works, when feeling generalized anxiety I acknowledge it and just mentally set it aside and keep going, use meditation with a timer through a free app called Insight (although there are a lot of meditation apps out there), use guided meditation through the same app, go to sleep to nature sounds/music, and go for walks. I also went to counseling for a while at the very beginning and did a lot of work to research things that would work for me using self-help books written by psychologists - I actually used a book in the "Dummies" series as they are written by great authors. Finally, if I find myself really cycling with thoughts I ask myself what are the real odds of what I am anxious about happening actually occurring and virtually always the situation is extremely unrealistic. Basically, I now have an arsenal of tools that work 98% of the time to get me through my feelings of anxiety and range from very short time options to other tools that may take longer (a longer meditation session or such) but I can chip away at the anxiety and work through the vast majority of the time now. Hopefully you will be able to find something from what I shared that will be able to help you too.
Thank you. I think the best thing I can do is add to how you put it your "arsenal of tools". I do use Insight timer but only to start my day, I could easily use it through out my day as well. I have been listening to some great podcast and realize I have a tough time asking others for help. This is something I am working on and posting this question to others has been a good 1st step. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me.
Try Relaxation Technique, MINDFULNESS, books can be purchased on Amazon for $10, or £7;00.
Hobbies and diversions also help to keep your thoughts on positive activities

Thank you. Yes, I do try to take a few minutes daily to calm my mind by using Insight Timer app. I just may need to do it a couple more times through out my day!
Different things work for different people. For me it's staying somewhat busy and engaged, with activities I've committed to showing up for at least a few times a week. ( Time off from everything is just a vast playground for my anxious mind to romp around in.) That and some kind of vigorous aerobic exercise every day, or at least every second day. Especially when I don't feel like it. I believe exercise has done more help me keep anxiety (social and generalized) at a survivable level than any SSRI, SNRI, or other medication. Also more than any talk therapy, of which I've tried lots. It probably helps that my exercise of choice, dancing, is something I genuinely enjoy and that engages my mind as much as my body.
You may find your way by trying a bunch of different strategies. Good luck!
