It's been 14 days since I've quit smoking. Right now I'm dealing with major insomnia at night. I feel tired a just want to sleep but every time I start to drift off I feel like my heart skipped a beat or stopped for a sec. Please help :(

I started smoking when I was sixteen, I went on to smoke sixty five cigarettes a day sometimes a pipe or cigars, I tried to stop when I was twenty one and it was a dead loss.

I managed to stop smoking after a car accident, and eventually stopped when I was twenty six years old. However I was still bringing soot up for seven years.

In my case I developed Bronkitus and I was in a bad way so I just stopped altogether., I still had a smokers cough for many years and on occasions I could still taste cigarettes for many tears after. Many of my clothes stank for years as well as did my car.

Talk to your GP, He may be able to assist, one thing that helped me was Original Fishermans Friends, when I felt the need I would suck on the sweet they have a really strong taste and I was still taking them when I met my wife near on eight years later.

Only you can stop with assistance, in my case I save the money and used it to go on holiday to Russia. When I started courting again I stopped the Fishermans Friends.

I have never smoked since being twenty seven, I am now seventy years old or so.

Good Luck, save the money and use it for a reward when you stop, it does however take about seven years before you loose the habit

Such an inspiring story. Thank you for sharing...Really boost my spirits up and I won't give up so soon...

Congratulations on making it this far. :)

I know when I quit, I could not sleep for two 1/2 days. (And when I finally collapsed asleep, I was smoking in my dreams! Haha finally! You can't get me here ! ;) )

The drug is leaving your body.

It took a few months for me to adjust- so just stick with it.

I used to put $6 in bills in a large empty glass pickle jar for every day that I didn't smoke (basically what I was spending on cigarettes every day- today it would be $12) It was so nice to see that jar fill with money- it kept me going!

I also wore a large ring on the index finger of my cigarette-holding hand, to counterbalance the emptiness it felt.

Since that time, I've incorporated other stress-lowering activities: putting a heating pad on my stomach to unknot stomach muscles( or sometimes rubbing stomach or just resting hands on it) ; lying for 20 min in a dark, quiet room; taking a short walk without many people; sucking on a piece of hard candy/drinking hot tea ; mindfulness techniques.

Good luck--- the worst is likely over.

:)
